The BBC mini-series adaptation of Good Omens (Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman), starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen, will debut on Amazon Prime May 31, 2019, with a later release by BBC. I love the book and am looking forward to this.

Fortunately May 31th is a Friday, so you can settle in to watch all six episodes with lots of pizza and caffeinated beverages :). Possibly crashing the amazon servers that night as well.

I enjoyed the book so much, and have reread it so many times, and have been looking forward to a movie version for so long - that I am extremely worried that no on screen adaptation could ever live up to my expectations. No matter how good it is, I'm probably going to end up being disappointed, and I seriously don't know what to do about it.

No, seriously, I'm asking - what do I do about it?

What I do is consider the book and its adaptation two different things, and judge each on its own merits.

Alternatively just don't watch the video; it will never be what you painted for yourself in your mind.

I wouldn't worry about it. For one thing Neil Gaiman was the showrunner and script writer for the TV series, and he didn't want to screw up a project he was doing in memory of Terry Pratchett. For another thing, the casting is phenomenal - I can't believe the number of absolutely perfect people they managed to get for all the parts. I plan a long night of streaming on Friday May 31st.

    Aw, what does HE know?

Tongue removed from cheek, there are a lot of Star Trek...well, I dunno what to say but fans clearly isn't the word, and can't really say watchers either since they're so proud of the fact that they'll never pay for Trek (said while sitting in a room filled with merch)...whatevers that really REALLY need to read this.

Listened to the TV Talk Machine podcast for this week. Tim Goodman (THR Chief TV Critic) says this show is fantastic. I had never heard of the book or this project until this week, but based on Goodman's recommendation, I'll definitely be watching.

The book is amazing, and Neil Gaiman (who co-wrote the book with Terry Pratchett) was the showrunner for the show. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get to it for a few days, but under normal circumstances I'd already be a couple episodes in by now.

No idea which way is the right way to go, "season" thread, or "episode" threads - both have pros and cons. But I'll go start 6 episode threads and see what happens.

    Episode thread index:

Good Omens - Episode 1 - "In the Beginning"
Good Omens - Episode 2 - "The Book"
Good Omens - Episode 3 - "Hard Times"
Good Omens - Episode 4 - "Saturday Morning Funtime"
Good Omens - Episode 5 - "The Doomsday Option"
Good Omens - Episode 6+ - "The Very Last Day of the Rest of Their Lives"

The last thread can also be used by folks who want a full 'season' discussion thread after binging, everything's fair game in that thread.

I've been waiting for this for months! Loved the book; read it to my kids and they loved it too. Unfortunately due to "other commitments" (by everyone else not me!! :( ) I won't have a chance to watch any until Sunday.

I gave up on American Gods half-way through. I'm about to bail on this as well after two episodes. Just not for me.
