    San Diego,...
I was watching the X-Files when I heard a hissing sound from my Tivo 3 glow remote.

One of the Energizer batteries exploded.

Has this happened to anybody else?

Is the cause a defective remote or a bad battery?

Should I ask for a new remote? I don't want exploding batteries torching my home.

Are those the factory supplied batteries? (mine came with industrial panasonic batteries.) If not then it's not tivo's issue; take it up with Energizer. This sounds like a simple case of a bad battery. (Or "mishandling"... mixing new with old, for example.)

(BTW, your battery leaked. If it exploded there'd be little bits o'battery all over the place.)

I have been having problems with Energizer brand batts leaking and ruining things for years. I only buy Duracells now and they have never leaked.

You can send the leaking batts and the ruined device to Energizer and they will send you a check to replace the device. I have done this many times.

I had a Duracell blow up inside my S2 remote. Enormous bang, the whole face of the remote blew off, some of the structural posts within the remote were broken. Literally, pieces of shrapnel flying.

The entire bottom end of the battery had blown off, including the inner brass nail.

I was able to reassemble the remote in working order, but lost the 1-2 switch. Duracell sent me a coupon for more batteries.

I can't say I've ever had a problem with either of those brands i the past. I use both and just get the one that is on sale at the time.

Holy cow, I blew this off..

Just went to change the batteries (remote was still working, but barely), and had to pry out one of the batteries with a SCREW DRIVER, IT WAS MELTED..!

Added to the earlier post, mine came with yellow Panasonic Industrials, not Energizers, I'd go for the battery manufacturer.

Did the batteries have a "Made in" anywhere?
