Per @TiVo_Ted in the 20.7.4.rc42 thread, SkipMode is coming to your Premieres:
WOW!!!! That is great!
It's not important, but I wonder if the rest of the 20.7.2 changes will be applied? That would mean HD menus. I don't use my Premiere much. It will be interesting to see what changes.
I keep my 3 Premieres going in the hopes of a customer friendly upgrade this June. But Rovi and recent TiVo service has me concerned. A new menu and especially SM could extend the life of these Premieres until Rovi/TiVo get their act together. Only difference I observe between Bolt+, Roamio Pro and Premier is speed of menu and program load times
Leave my SD menues alone. Do what you want to the features I don't need or want, as long as I can continue to use the system the way I'm used to. I won't ever use Skip Mode (for "reasons") and I hope I can avoid it entirely, but I've heard that it repurposes one the buttons on the remote. Let me know if this is a setting I can disable or opt out of, please.
(again, "reasons" i won't get into here. It's not that I don't skip commercials, I do! It's why I recorded on VHS back in the dark ages, it's why I have a DVR now. I can skip ads using the FF mode. I won't tell people not to enjoy their Skip Mode, as long as they allow me to enjoy my own method.)
Skip mode will be a game changer for the Premiere. Every time it's available for a show on my Roamio or Bolt, I use it. Skipping commercials is one of the main reasons I use a DVR to watch television.
It wasn't pretty when the Roamio and Bolt merged their menu system. I wish you well.
R.I.P. Tivo, The update that killed the Tivo User experience
I think they had to do this to make it possible to upgrade to Hydra. Since the Premieres can't upgrade to Hydra, I doubt they'll bother pushing this to the Premieres.
I really hope you are right.
I've held onto a 2XL, 4XL and a base Premier assuming that once they got 'SkipMode' the resale might improve dramatically. I'm certainly hoping as much. All mine have 'LIFETIME/ALL IN'
My XL4 has the update as of today (not sure when it was pushed); but still not skip mode.
I usually stream XL4 recordings to my Roamio to watch in viewing room.
I wonder if the skip mode if/when it happens will work streaming?
It should, ‘cause it does for Roamios and BOLTs.
I'm on RC42 as of today too. Ted says SM will be enabled shortly after we get this update. Later this week, maybe next? Also included is the screen reader but he mentioned that not working as well. I'm excited for this update as the XL4 is my personal TiVo.
What @TiVo_Ted stated:
And I haven’t come across any timeline for either rollout, though such a post may exist. (The only ETA I’ve seen, recently, is that the Alexa app was supposed to be fully deployed by June, but that’s unrelated to RC42 or SM.)
The latest... SkipMode is imminent, per @TiVo_Ted:
I'm hoping I'm in the post-holiday-weekend half for whatever changes are coming my way. Busy schedule means I can't take the time to learn new remote commands until Tuesday. Maybe I should read up on what to expect?
‘D’ or ‘Channel Up’ to skip to start of next program segment; (ignoring VOX options)
‘Channel Down’ to skip back to start of previous program segment.
edit: p.s. Though SkipMode’s takeover of the ‘D’ button steps on GroupPlay controls, if that’s a thing you use. I don’t know if TiVo pre-killed that control, or if RC42 and flipping the SM switch will do so.
I think it's just press 'D' to skip commercials if SKIP is enabled on the recorded program you are watching. Looks like not all programs get SKIP. And those that do might not always have it enabled.
I'm happy to get the feature since I never expected it to come to the Premieres. But I'm also really used to the 30 second skip.
