I have been reading alll of the suggestions both here and in the S3 forum on freezing (my new machine is now also freezing). I am running on UPS and the machine still freezes, even if I disconnect from the ethernet connection.

I have another question. I can't believe it is the cablebox (using RCA connection to TIVO) but I have disconnected the box. My question is- does Tivo harddrive still "spin" if there is no cable signal. I feel that this test maybe useless since, it the hd won't spin/work without a tv signal, I am not really testing it.

I am at wits end on what else to try. Of course, could be coincidence and just received a bad new Tivo.

I'm pretty sure the hard drive will still spin even if there's no video signal to record. The TiVo is like a PC: the TiVo software is still running on it, so the hard drive will running too. It just won't be working as hard as if it were constantly recording the Live TV buffer.
