Somewhere in the first season, maybe the first episode, Doug explained that he is doing an impression of one of his old martial art teachers. He's since toned down the fake accent he used, and made it his own signature line.

One weird thing about this show is how it shows up in my TiVo. We're currently in Season 5, episode 42!

I think it's weird, too. The external sources don't all agree either.

Last night's ep "The O-Katana" was supposedly their 100th episode, either s5e43 or s6e04 -- I prefer the season 6 numbering myself, as does Gracenote and the History Channel itself; only Rovi and FutonCritic never noticed the rollover to the new season.

Amazon sees it as the new season too. I purchased the season pass for the season when they added it at 99 cents. (Amazon does this a lot with some shows, the entire season will be priced at the cost of one episode for a little while, then go up to normal). Without even knowing how many shows the season will be, I figure 99 cents is worth it for a better picture quality than comcrap and no commercials - heck, they don't even have the leadout and leadin graphics on the commercial breaks, it makes it so much better to watch.

As a woman I’m not super interested in swords and knives but I heard that Skyrim (I love Skyrim) was mentioned in an episode so I started recording the shows and I quickly became a fan of the show. I find all the different weapons on the show to be fascinating.

I feel a little bit sorry for the ballistics dummy in the kill tests.

This show has a very above average beards to men ratio.

I'm surprised when contestants say they've never done this technique or made this kind of blade. It's not like the show's producers surprise them with their appearances. They've applied to be on the show and know when they're going to appear. If you've never done canister Damascus or san mai etc..., techniques that are asked for seemingly every third or fourth episode, why not practice it before showing up for the show?

I've noticed that they seem to be airing two new episodes every week. Is one of them a repeat? I haven't recognized them.

the two-per-week is too much for me to keep up with, and my folder needs more room. Yes, both are new, but only one of the pair repeats on the following week.

Oh my god, this show is great

Was down in Nashville for a fantasy football draft with like a dozen guys over the summer and we found the short videos just showing the endings of these eps

We were DYING with "It will Keel" or "It will cut"
Think we watched every single one (like 5-10 min clips)

Did anyone catch tonight‘s episode? Ricardo was a stud! He finished the first round with 20 minutes to spare, and when making his sword, he didn’t like the first one so he made two! Both were amazing weapons.

I am skipping tonight's 4-hour block of what is very likely a repackaging of old episodes with some new content for padding. Let me know if I missed anything good. (note: you might need to make a new Pass to pick these up -- they're doing it again next week)

Saw a promo for a new version where the judges are building weapons. That should be pretty cool.

You need another season pass to pick these up on your TiVo.

Just a reminder, Forged in Fire: Beat the Judges airs tonight and it requires a new season pass.

Are the judges actually competing? I wonder if Doug Marcaida will be at a disadvantage since he's more of a knife user as opposed to a knife maker.

From watching this preview it seems Neilson, Baker, and Abbott will do the forging and Marcaida will do the testing.

That was it. Neilson to do some of his typically brutal knife bashing.

One of my favorite parts of the show was the initial knife forging segment with all four competitors. They did away with that and the contestants forged their initial knife in their home forges.

They also showed both final contestants tempering their swords which they never did on the regular series.

It's a little different but I still like it. I still fast forward through the home forging segment though.

Looking forward to seeing how the other judges fare.

Does anyone know why Nielsen and Abbot switch off?
