It's happened in the past when I had Comcast.

But I've also been dealing with digital OTA broadcasts for 8 years now. They have come a long way from how it was is 2001. Some things are worse(like picture quality because of al the subchannels) but most things are better.

OK, Here is the answer that I recieved from Tivo's level 2 support.

The problem is Verizon's!!! Tribune (the company that does the lineup's for Tivo) has contacted Verizon repeatedly about this issue. Verizon will not let Tivo list the channels by their real names and show the channel content, but insist that they list them as Local Origination. Legaly, because Verizon is in control of what channel info is listed for THEIR system, Tivo has to comply.

Here is what ticks me off.

    1. I am paying Verizon for these channels and they are not letting me get the correct information. BTW the channels are listed correctly on their (Verizon's) guide and DVR.

    2. Is this a power stuggle where Verizon is telling Tivo that they will not cooperate with Tivo in anyway? They have their own DVR and could care less about Tivo.

I am going to contact Verizon about this issue. I would suggest that if it effects you, that you do the same.

Dude, that story is bollocks. I've said it before, I'll say it again: Don't get your information from CSRs. Not even "second level" ones. They're ignorant and they make **** up just to get you off the phone.

Not that I have any insider info here, mind you; it's just that no element of that is plausible. But by all means, call Verizon, and watch them pass the buck back. Meanwhile, if you ever get to talk to the right person (not a CSR), this would be fixed in five minutes. It's not a conspiracy; it's just apathy, on both sides.

I agree that most times CSR's do not have the correct info. On this case, I tend to believe them. She indicated that they have been fielding a ton of lineup change requests about this very issue. If it was apathy, why would they waste all the man-hours fielding and processing the requests and not just take the 5 minutes and just fix it.

I have a high up contact at Verizon that I've delt with in the past. I've contacted them and they are looking into it from their end.

    I'll report back.

Because there's no communication between the people who answer the phones and the people who could fix it.

Well, to triangulate the real story... last time I checked, TV Guide didn't have data on those channels either. I'd be willing to believe that Tribune, TiVo, and TV Guide are all victims and the provider is the issue.

The content is pretty bad, but I wouldn't call it infomercials.

While these aren't my favorite channels, I do occasionally enjoy watching them and it would be nice to know what is being broadcasted as we are paying for the service - both with Verizon AND Tivo!!! They need to figure out how to get along and pronto!!

Last I looked, even the guide data on the Motorola boxes wasn't accurate on those channels, There were programs titles and descriptions, but they didn't line up with what was actually showing. I don't watch these channels so I can't say how common that is.

I just checked my 1 FIOS Box and the guide data on it was matching was I previously provided per the lineup from their website. It's downright ridiculous Tribune can't map the channels correctly and import programming content directly from the station's owner - this isn't circa 1980 anymore!!!

As the thread starter and the one who has been persistant with Tivo/Tribune and Verizon, here is a update:

At one point, level 2 tech support at Tivo told me that Verizon was forcing them to show the channels as Local Origination. I contacted Verizon and was told by a high level source that that was untrue. Basically tech support lied.
Lesson learned is that somtimes tech support will lie to get you off the phone as another poster indicated.

THe real scoop from what I've been told is that Tribune has to negotiate with the owners of the channels (Entertainment Studios) for the rights to carry the info on their service. I'm assuming it involves money. They are in negotiations now. And I was told that it was just a matter of time.

I've found that tv.yahoo.com and www.titantv.com both have the correct listings for the new channels. I asked why they are showing the listings and was told that they have already negotiated the contract.

I am frustrated by the fact that we are paying Tivo a monthly service fee to handle this for us and there has been a HUGE disconnect between Tivo and Tribune. It is very hard to get correct and timely information about lineup issues. Once you send in a lineup issue there is no one checking whether or not it has been fixed. I reported this issue on 5/15 - going on 2 months now.
I should not have to jump through these hoops to get the channels right.

Also, why do we have to send in lineup issues anyway, Shouldn't Tribune know (or at least be in contact with the cable providers)? I'm sure that all the Verizon subscribers remember when Verizon changed their channel lineup a while back and Tribune took days and in some cases a week to get the lineup correct. All the while out Tivo box was useless.

I love my Tivo, but this is the one issue that they really need to fix.

Thanks for the clarity and I just don't want Tivo, Verizon or Tribune to know we are going to be passive with this one as I don't want it to be the precursor for more stations to create these problems down the road!!

The FIOS realignment issues were all Tivo problems. Tribune was updated right away, as was clear if you went to Zap2It or any number of other interfaces to the Tribune data.

Tivo totally dropped the ball on the Verizon realignment. No one else to blame.

But this (and most other channel issues) appear to be Tribune problems.

Amen, plus I don't want to see this starting some precedent, where we have to 'circle the wagons' everytime new stations are broadcasted!!

I had fios installed last Saturday and everything went very well. The Verizon tech was able to pair the cablecards directly from his laptop. However, the verizon fios local dc channels do not show up in the tivo series 3 and tivo HD guides correctly. Local DC channels 4, 5, 7 and 20 show up as the correct channels but have no schedule information. To be announced is all that shows up. Local Channel 9 shows up as a Baltimore channel in the guide but is actually local dc channel 9 but with all the wrong schedule information since the tivo guide thinks it is the Balt. channel. The local DC channels are listed as 514, 515, 517 and 519 but I there is nothing there when I tune to those channels.

I called TIVO tech support and they said it would be fixed in 5 business days, however I see from this board that many others have had this problem for a long time. Can TIVO fix it?

That's the first I've heard of a lineup problem with the DC locals. (This thread is about something different -- not just "TV channels" missing from the guide, but ".TV channels", a specific (non-local) group. Sorry, I know it was probably the board software that misdirected you here.) I have the same basic lineup (Washington DC Metro) with no issues, but I'm not in DC itself. It sounds like Tribune (the guide provider) screwed up massively. Pretty common for them, I'm sorry to say.

I think Fios is new to DC proper, so hopefully these are teething issues. Certainly I'd expect that everyone else in your area (with a TiVo on Fios) is seeing the same thing, and it should be fixed soon. If you want to confirm that the error is on the Tribune level, go to zap2it.com and plug in your zip code there.
