I took the pill bottle as a noticed change in scenery signaling that someone was in the house and moving around since they left. Meaing the daughter was in immediate danger. I don't know what zombies need with prescription medication so I assume it bumped the table and the pill bottle fell over.

The neighbors are backyard neighbors NOT nextdoor neighbors. They ran after seeing the walker in the front yard. They went out the back door, over the fence and through what I assume to be an asian garden (pole bean maze) in their neighbors backyard to get into the house through the back door. They saw the truck lights approach while looking out theback of the house and went back the way they came. It may be a long block so it was faster to go through the back and not around the block.

I enjoyed the show, but had to ignore a whole lot of stupid.

Phil is right. With the military there, you'd think someone would have said "hey, we have a woman with a broken foot".

I don't particularly care for the woman's husband. He's way too arrogant to survive. His daughter's first impression is right. Stick together. He's too concerned with his pride, and unless he gets over that, he'll just lead them into a death trap.

And yeah, why didn't Maddie just run out of the house to greet Travis? Or insist that they do something about Susan rather than just leaving her for the husband?

Travis' son is an annoying little snot. I'm hoping he's gobbled up soon.

Maddie's son has a surprisingly strong grip on what's happening. "She's not sick. She's dead."

I can understand that they don't know what's happening, so some natural actions (like not wanting to kill your neighbors) aren't really stupid. But some things didn't make sense, like not checking the news out to see what's happening. I stopped watching The Walking Dead when I made up my mind that they were too stupid to have survived that long. Even after months of zombies, people were surprisingly ignorant and putting themselves in situations where they'd get eaten.

There's nothing the dog can do to win. A shotgun blast to the chest won't hurt a zombie, what could a dog do? The dog would try to bite the zombie, who would then just wrap its arms around the dog and start tearing it apart.

If you think they are going to haul off your wife to a "hospital" or "decontaminated" you might not want to tell them.

I think the way the scene was shot, with her noticing the pill bottle, then the camera panning to SuSu's feet, we were supposed to understand that Alicia seeing the bottle told her that SuSu was still in the house.

A lot of great points, many of which had not occurred to me. I did think that the kid took the pills but wondered why he would just leave the bottle. If I were going to take the pills I'd grab the whole bottle, not dump them out. So maybe Susan did off herself.

I kept yelling 'shut the damn door'. Ok, in my head, not out loud. :D

I can see having things happen that slow you down but it seems like they just keep going backward. But then I get that they have no idea what is really going on, when/if it will end, and what would be the best course of action. At some point I'd have to deduce that staying in the house is not going to be a good plan of action, what with everything going to such extremes. Maybe they should have watched TWD. :D

As Dwatt said, Susan and her husband lived behind the family and not next to them. There was no running out the front door to greet him as he got out of the truck. They would have been on a different street.

But she saw him at a stop sign or intersection and it only looked like he was a couple of houses away. Wouldn't it have been quicker to just go to where you just saw him while honking the horn and yelling. Then (if he didn't hear) go through his house following him. I mean, you would be the one in a hurry, he was just leisurely walking through the house/yard.

    I know, it's a tv show.

She saw the truck through the back window of the backyard neighbors house across both backyards down a driveway between two houses (hers and her nextdoor neighbors). She had to go back the way she came. Why she didn't yell? I don't know.

It wasn't very clear. They entered the neighbor's house, went through it, looked out windows, and it seemed like she was a lot closer than it implied. It almost looked like he was just across the street.

Yeah, I keep reminding myself of that. They have no idea of what's happening. Also, and I'll spoilerize this because some people may fuss later but it really explains something that will NEVER be brought up within the series and is something the writers said is a basis for the stories....

Nobody in this world has ever heard of a zombie before. There was never a "Night of the Living Dead" movie, or "Dawn of the Dead", or any pop-culture knowledge of zombies (which is why they never use the word). Whereas today most people would look at one of those "walkers" and say "zombie! blow it's brains out!", the whole concept is totally foreign to them even as fiction.

I personally don't like that decision because before I found out, it was like you were watching what would happen if our world was hit with the zombie apocalypse. Now it makes it seem like another world.

No need to spoil that, been talked about many many times in TWD and FTD

Just have to imagine that it's something else that we've never imagined, how would you handle that?

Maybe they're in the lucky beachhead neighborhood. But encircling LA doesn't scale.

And the military didn't insist on checking the house?

Yeah, but they should've showed that decision process. It means that all of them agree that asking for medical help is a bad idea or someone convinced the others. Yet they don't seem to fear the military presence. (Well, Reuben said "It's already too late.")

There are some interesting options here. Can the families still leave if they want to? When the situation becomes untenable, will the military save the civilians or themselves?

I didn't get the sense that the military presence would prevent them from moving around or leaving town if they wanted to. I just got the sense that these troops were moving through and trying to round up the infected to prevent the spread of the disease, under the mistaken premise that removing the infected will eradicate the problem.

No, the body was in the back yard. In the trash was the bloody rug he was wrapped in.

Power off most of the night. News has been controlled.

The house they broke into and stole a shotgun from? You mean that house?

After the Northridge earthquake here in LA the National Guard was deployed around the city. I remember them marking houses as uninhabitable with spray paint, exactly as in this episode. That part was eerily familiar to me. The riot scenes also brought back memories; I didn't find that part unlikely at all.

Well, you sometimes think it's OK to discuss something openly until you get lots of angry responses saying "I didn't want to know that!"

I'm not sure what you mean by your question.

Still, when power comes back on you turn on the TV or check the internet. Or even try to call up pages on your cell phone. When it's obvious something bad is happening, you check to see if it's on the news.

We just have to accept that this show takes place in a universe where zombie lore has never existed, and people don't clamor to TV/radio/internet for news about what's happening in their community.

Because really, without the threat of a zombie apocalypse, what's the point of checking the news all the time? Kinda takes away all the urgency. ;)

This is terrible and it keeps getting worse. I will give it one more show to develop any sign of quality.

Whoever wrote the "you know how I feel about guns" exchange should find a new line of work.
