"Here's what you see when the show starts in 60... 45... 30..."
"Here's what you'll see after the break."
"Here's what you just saw before the break, now here's what you'll see in 5 seconds."

It was scheduled for 1:56 even earlier in the week before they knew how long the NASCAR race would be.

I don't know if it had more commercials than a usual show, but I thought it was interesting that they had commercials fairly early. Often mini-series or original movies have at least a VERY long first section before a break (to suck people in). I'm almost positive I've seen close to half an hour before the first break once or twice, at least on the major networks. (Then yes, they have very frequent breaks after that.) This wasn't like 50 years ago either (I'm not that old), probably within the last 10 or so years.

I watched the movie that was on before the showing of this pilot. During the movie, they must have advertised "Falling Skies" a zillion times. If you look at the schedule, they are showing the pilot over and over again as well. I had high hopes for the show but the pilot just put me to sleep. So, I'm wondering, did their test audiences fall asleep too and someone decide "we better push this real hard to get people to watch?"

LOL!! I liked the characters enough not to fall asleep. I just thought there were serious plot holes in it.

I thought they had a s***load of commercials...many more than normal for any two hour movie -- premiere or not. Seemed like I was hitting my 30SS constantly...

Without commercials it was a little longer than 1 hour and 20 minutes which is about right for most other tv shows as well which are around 40 to 43 minutes without the commercials, this was twice that...

I agree! I didn't get TiVo set up in time, and had to watch it through Comcast On-Demand - for which I expected no commercials. But, no, there were commercials every 5 minutes, it felt like. Sheesh!
And - On-Demand had a warning that you couldn't FFWD through the show because it was from TNT or where-ever. Thank goodness that was false... but, you can only go one speed, and it's just not fast enough.

Yep, 1:22:35 to be exact. Just as many commercials an any other two hour tv show or two one hour tv shows.

Does that figure include all of the "Coming up on Falling Skies..." bits from right before each commercial break? I can't imagine that TNT would let those outros take up valuable commercial time.

No, none of those were included in the time.
