At the end of a channel information update, my TIVO HD either freezes or reboots. I have replaced the hard drive after verifying it for no errors. I then re-imaged the hard drive with winfms.exe. I also had the capacitors replaced on the power supply board. Even though I get the update fails "unknown error" message, sometimes the channel information is updated after the "updating channel information' screen blocks live TV for about 3 minutes. I also often get a reboot if I move between Tivo screens while the update is underway.

I also get a reboot if I am downloading a file from my PC using Pytivo and move through Tivo screens. It seems as though the updating or downloading is putting stress on the Tivo and moving through the screens 'overloads' the system. Don't know if this is the same issue as the reboot at the end of a normal update.

Check in system Information and see if the Tivo Service Number is listed or ALL ZEROS. If its all zeros, you need to do Clear & Delete Everything. This will wipe the drive and marry it to the Tivo, should eliminate that error.

What model drive did you replace with. Only a small number of drives work in Tivo.

I've already done the 'clear and delete' before and nothing changed. My new HD is a WD6400AAK5. I am now in the process of doing a guided setup with the cable card out per a suggestion on Weaknees. Seems to be stuck in 'preparing' for an hour. Is this worthwhile?
