I'm watching what I can of it. I remember seeing some of the Evel Knievel jumps (or attempts) back in my youth and being awed. I wish Travis Pastrana the best on his efforts. It looks like jump #1 is about to be attempted about 1hr 10mins into the show.

Yes, definitely recording. Although, I would imagine if anything happens, it will be all over the news channels.

I’d never heard of this guy before this special. I’m a bit put off by them calling it “Evel” Live.

I'd heard his name before, loosely recall it being linked to X-Games or something similar, but otherwise didn't know much about him or his claim to fame.

Personally on the "Evel" link, I think I would have gone with something like "Recreating Evel" rather than "Evel Live". That would have given it more of a "tribute" feel to begin with.

Oh, I did want to say I admire the level of control that is required for trying to land these Indian Scout motorcycles. As pointed out on the show, there's little shock absorption on these bikes. I went through a couple of successive potholes on the Harley that is shown in my avatar. There was spring and bounce when I went through the first pothole, and unfortunately the second pothole came up too quickly to fully recover and get back full control. Absorbing that shock when the bike lands is impressive. Maintaining control of the bike isn't easy. Especially not on the heavy bikes that are being used for these jump attempts.

Well, fortunately, all 3 jumps were on GMA today, so I didn’t have to scrub through 3 hours of video to contrast and compare. :)

And they looked text book from what I could tell. Of course, they will always run Evel’s original Caesar's Palace attempt as well. Every bone-crushing bit of it in slow motion.

Poor Bobby. I can’t imagine all that pain. :(

I watched it delayed the same night but did a ton of fast forwarding. But besides the jumps I also watched and enjoyed all of the old Evel Kneivel footage and stories from back in the day.

He really was huge and the epitome of cool when I was a kid. A true daredevil, innovator, showman extraordinaire, as well as a trailblazer of extreme sports.

FYI, "Being Evel" is on Amazon Prime video.. History showed it earlier in the day, but I also noticed it was on Amazon. Not sure if I'll watch it sped up (which I can only watch on my recording), or hopefully guarantee it's unedited (Amazon prime).

This was an impressive event but I believe that the best tribute to Evel was the reenactment of Evel's greatest jump, the Snake River jump by stuntman Eddie Braun in 2016. Eddie wasn't promoting anything other than his respect for his boyhood hero. He spent $1.5 million out of his own pocket to accomplish Evel's dream of making it across the canyon.
