As far as Abby and her 'support network', she doesn't have one. She stopped going to AA meetings a long time ago. On top of that, it's not just taking care of a baby, but a crying baby, and an injured one. She had quite a scare and needed someone to lean on and had no one.

She's got a babysitter/nanny, but they aren't always available 24/7. Her shifts seem to move around a bit, so it doesn't look like she has a regular schedule. Doctors frequently have long shifts. Most likely 12 hrs if not an overnight 36 hr shift. I'm sure she has daycare issues with that. It's got to be difficult for her. With Luka, they could alternate a bit. And, as a parent of someone who was quite difficult small, it can be very trying. My spouse didn't handle it well and could very well go round the bend if he had to go it alone.

Also, after Joe fell on his head, Abby fired her regular nanny. The person/people working for her now are new.

To add to the justification for Abby's meltdown, you may remember she originally didn't want to keep the baby because she didn't feel she could handle it, and it was only after Luca promised he would be there to help her and they'd do it together that she felt capable of being a mother. So, with an extended time by herself with Joe and the other added pressures that people have mentioned, it didn't seem too outrageous that she would take a drink or two after the big scare, esp. since (as pointed out) she doesn't have much support. And, once she's off the wagon it doesn't seem too outrageous that she would have descended rapidly.

I really do agree that having the other guy be Moretti is incredibly stupid and very bad writing/character development. Completely out of character for him, IMO.

I tune in hoping one day they write a shower scene for Neela and Sam, in fact they ought to make them clean and scrub on each show before leaving work and use that time to talk and socalize, have all the nurses do that, while I watch. I'd get those ER ratings up....

Seriously, if I had a baby and my wife was an ER nurse, I'd want her to shower before coming home, you really could bring all sorts of diseases home after working in an ER.

Just watched this episode last night. Eh. Not horrible, not great. I found it funny that Abby's soda can was "COLA" but I'm pretty sure the vodka is the freezer was "Smirnoff" or some real brand. I don't know if i can handle watching Abby go into a bipolar mirror image of her mom.

Who am I kidding? I know I'll keep watching!
