I was just wondering how many people use their DVR Switch to control 2 Tivos. I was doing this but found that if I set the switch to 2 when I hit the Tivo button the Menu for the Tivo set on Switch 1 would come up. Then I would have to go back to 1 and cancel out of that menu. Wait a few minutes hit the switch to 2 and then the Tivo button and get to that menu. This seemed to take a long time, so I am now using two Tivo remotes. Maybe I was doing something wrong.

I had a lot of trouble setting both sets with completely covering the IR sensor. It took me many tries, sometimes going to two totally different ID numbers (started with 1 & 2 and ended up using 7 & 9).

Eventually I got it all set up and have no problems.

I used the DVR switch with no problems for a couple of years before I bought a good universal remote.

As ah30k indicated, you need to change the remote addresses in your units (which are both originally set at the default address of 0) so that they are different. If you haven't done this, then that would definitely explain your problem.

Here is how I had it set up and it was still giving me problems. Tivo #1 was set to remore address 1 on Switch 1 and Tivo #2 was set to remote address 2 on Switch 2.

i've been using one peanut remote to control 2 different TiVos for over two years with no problems. first it was two 540s, then it was a 540 and a 649, then a 649 and a 652, now it's two 652s. i started out using switch position one with remote address one and switch position two with remote address two. now i'm using switch position one with remote address three and switch position two with remote address four. the changes ocurred when i switched TiVo models as it was less work at the time than changing the remote addresses.

I just set up the glo remote to handle both my Series 2 and my Series 3, and it worked flawlessly... my only complaint is that the indicator lights on both units display when I press a button on either 1 or 2.

that's normal, the light response is showing that a signal is being received by each unit. however because the remote is sending a different signal depending on the position of the dvr switch, one of the units that recieves the signal ignores it whereas the other one accepts it.

A technician at Tivo helped me set up my two sets, and they work flawlessly with one peanut remote. The tip he told me, which might help you, is that when setting up Tivo one.......disconnect Tivo 2. Then when setting up Tivo 2, disconnect Tivo 1. This helps to make sure that they are setting up to control the proper unit.

    Hope this is helpful.

Thanks. When I get a chance I'm going to try this.

I currently am using two TiVos, one with an IR extender into my livingroom/office, the other in my workroom. I have the DVRS and their remotes set to different addresses, just to avoid confusion.
