Just bought a used DVR-80 that was upgraded (its series2 ver. 4.0.xxxb with 133 hrs). I get an ip address on the box, verified the drop was working with my laptop, but it hangs on the negotiating step of the connect to Tivo.

    Any thoughts...

I was a Tivo/Directv user a few years ago, and got rid of Dtv and now am back.

I am out of the game so I lost track of software versions and the Dtv tivo world.

    Thanks.

What was done to this unit to get the USB ports operational?
You may need to ask in the underground and home media features forums.

Thanks, I will check into and probably do what you suggest about Zipper and Instacake. I am guessing after I do this, there is no need to phone home, and I see the script actually fools the Tivo to not phone home.

The guide data comes via the sat then I assume (Like i said its been a while since I have been in the Directv world).

    Thanks for the help.

Yes, you're correct - no need to connect the phone as all guide data comes from the satellite. With the phone line disconnected, you'll need to order PPV on the internet.
