My dad has just bought a new Sony DVD recorder. It is set up as per the manual; ie with the DVD solely using the "VCR" SCART on the Tivo.

Now, as I understand it, this should allow viewing of a DVD without the need for the Tivo to be on, whether in bypass mode or not. At least, I can with my old Philips :)

Unfortunately, this doesn't work with this Sony. The DVD cannot be watched without the Tivo being on and in "VCR bypass" mode  :(

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

By "on" do you mean powered up? Or "not in standby"?

Check the SCART settings in the TiVo menus.

if the dvd recorder has pass thru rgb when in standby I would put it between Tivo TV out and TV (2 x scart sockets on recorder).

Also it can record from Tivo in RGB.

Your old Philips model dvd recorder could :)

    Yes.
Well they haven't been changed but I will check them, yes :)
But again, this would require the Tivo to be on, wouldn't it?
