Ok- So there are quite a few threads explaining how to downgrade your Roamio to TiVo Classic, but how do you upgrade a downgraded unit back to Hydra? Do I have to go through guided setup again or is there a short cut?

Thanks yesno! We are about to take the plunge and upgrade our Roamio, so we can use the voice remote...

You should just hit the blue Voice button and be prompted. Does that not work?

How was your Hydra upgrade on the Roamio? Does it run smoothly? How long do apps take to load?

Hey, I forgot about posting here. You know what, it works pretty good. The upgrade seemed to take longer than I wanted, as i recall, but it went just fine. I've heard many here say they don't like Hydra, but I guess since we didn't have our TiVo long before we upgraded it seems just fine. I do like the menus and such. It did take us a little getting used to using the TiVo button and my Shows, but after that no issues. I think next on the list will be a bigger hard drive. 1GB seems big, but after you start recording that space gets filled up easier than you expect.

And this is for the Roamio (not Roamio Plus) correct? I'm interested in how Hydra performs because I know the Roamio has lower processing power (and I think RAM) than the Roamio Plus which may impact menu navigation and app loading.

Whoops, ours is a Roamio Plus. 848. Sorry about that. I checked on TivoPedia to be sure. On occasion it does seem to lag, but generally it does not give us any problems. Again, that may be because we didn't have TiVo for that long before we pulled the trigger on the upgrade. I like the revised menus, and the apps list. Even though I don't use it much. I would like to nix the suggestions thing; it does not do well guessing at what we'd like to watch.
What was also interesting was that the TiVo minis also had to do an update when we updated the Roamio.

well, the minis have to be on the same operating system as the main TiVo. main reason probably is because they receive all the encoded video info from the main TiVo. i do think Hydra is better (especially in its more mature revision) than the previous TiVo OS. i also have a Roamio Plus that Hydra runs on. I was hoping someone upgraded a regular Roamio and was able to confirm smooth performance w/ Hydra. Anyway, glad you're enjoying it.
