So I set up my Tivo at my parents house(I lack a home phone line) and did the setup there. Everything was fine until I tried to watch live tv. And the screen was just black. They have an older tv that has no inputs on the back, and so do I. So you need a RF modulator to plug stuff into the tv. The cable goes into the modulator and another cable goes from the modulator to the tv. With the inputs connected to the tivo and the modulator. (hmm...now that i'm typing this it doesn't seem quite right, maybe i need to check how I have that set up) Any ideas? Or does a modulator just not work with a tivo? And if so how is that different from a splitter working with one?

Isn't there an RF out on the back of the TiVo? No modulator required.

Right, but then there's no way to put in the red/yellow/white inputs(since the older tv doesn't have them). you need those right?

You can just use coaxial/rf from Tivo to TV and that will work... unless its one of the DVD combo units that only uses the RF as pass through.
