Do actors get set in your mind with a certain role?

Ed O'Neill and Katey Segal as Al & Peg Bundy

I dont watch Modern Family so cant comment on that but Katey Sagal was in Superior Donuts and now the Conners. But she's still Peg Bundy

Ordinary People was an interesting watch for me. All the way through, I was expecting a huge redemption scene for "the one and only" Mary Tyler Moore...

For me it's more a problem of seeing a face, knowing I know who it is, but for whatever reason, I get a complete mental block, and can't figure out who the person is, or even what the role was. It's sometimes so distracting, I have to stop and look them up, which of course, is much easier to do more, thankfully.

I saw both of those too as well as a few smaller roles. It was always just Landry.

I honestly forget she was Peg Bundy after watching Sons of Anarchy. She's forever Gemma Teller for me now. I do agree on Ed though, and I've watched a lot of Modern Family.

It doesn’t help that his other roles were basically “Gabe” as well

You have to give them some time and leeway. Otherwise how does Angel become Seeley Boothe, or Veronica Mars become Eleanor Shellstrop, Mike become Bob, or Hal become Walter? We’re doing a disservice to the actors if we can’t accept them in new roles. That’s kind of the whole point.

She is one who, somehow in my brain, I never pigeonholed her. I think maybe, for me, it is that her character as Peg was kind of extreme, what with the hair and the clothes, and the personality that never felt that 'real' for me. So, when I see her in other roles I don't get that 'it's Peg Bundy' thing. I really like her and will seek her out (except that I never watched that biker show she was on). I also really liked her little sisters, the twins, and was always disappointed to never see them again in anything.

I don’t know if I ever saw her sisters in anything, but I finished Mrs. Fletcher on HBO recently, and her son was one of the main characters.

Which is a real shame because he was very talented. He plays a cop in the film "Macon County Line" (which he also wrote and produced) who is about as far removed from Jethro as one could possibly be. The character is very cocky and threatening and Baer really pulls it off. He's chilling. Hard to believe it's the same actor.
