Thanks for the heads up. I was considering watching before the series is finished but I'll wait so as not to spoil where the series might lead.

I do wonder why they changed the venue from San Francisco to Philadelphia.

I have no idea what this show is supposed to be about, but it's quirky and different so I'm in for the long haul. I'll watch anything that's off the wall and doesn't follow any normal pattern used by thousands of other boring TV shows.

Finished episode 3 and still digging it. I really hope it ends in a satisfying manner.

Same. I wonder where this will go when we are done with the backstories. It's just strange enough to keep me very interesting, yet not so "out there" that it's just ridiculous. It's one of the few shows I look forward to every week (along with Curb Your Enthusiasm)

I found “Fred Wynn” the best episode so far.

I think every episode has been better than the last. I just hope that it ends decently.

My recording of the last ep got cut off just at the end, after "Clara?". Did I miss anything?

(When I saw that it was cut off, I added padding to the season pass, and then set the next airing of that ep to record... but neglected to explicitly pad that, so it got cut off, too. Argh!)

It cut to black right after Peter says "Clara?"

There’s a 5 min summary of ep 1-4) (that showed up in my 1Pass. Says that the story of each individual is based on The Wizard of Oz.

i watched that summary too, but i took a more general interpretation of what was said. In the Oz movie (dunno about the book) it uses the 4 backstories to introduce what each character needs/wants, which gives them differing motivations. I think Jason's intent was to use that as his story structure for the episodes, not to clone the characters from Oz specifically.

But we'll each get different things out of the show, the way different players got different results from their participation in the game. And neither view is complete without the other perspectives.

(btw, i'm still enjoying the show and watching each ep multiple times)

Yeah, I posted that too quickly, and I see that my “based on” comment was not accurate (nor what I meant to say). My take away was exactly as you said.

I was excited to see a new episode on my list, but disappointed to see it was a 5 minute summary. :(

So we learn about Clara now. We can now see clearly that this show is about breaking free from the doldrums of life. And we can see the battle between Elsewhere and the Institute is that.

The Wizard of Oz influence is apparent now. They actually adopted a similar dialogue line from the movie. Clara is like Dorothy and painting the waterfall must have been like accidentally killing the wicked witches' sister, because when the wicked witch-like character from the JeJeune Institute pulled up in the car she angrily asked "Who did this?"

I'm not sure I understand anything, but damn it's entertaining!

Sally Fields is knocking it out of the park. The entire cast is amazing in their roles.

I was looking on Wiki to see how many episodes (10) and read that:
"Segel said that he chose to shoot in Philadelphia because during location scouting he was surprised to learn that despite its dingy reputation, the city is actually full of colorful public art; he said seeing the Magic Gardens for the first time was the moment he knew Philly was the right location for the show."

Speaking of which, I knew the name of the actor who plays Fredwynn, Andre Benjamin, sounded familiar to me. Turns out it's André 3000 from OutKast! AKA Possum Jenkins. AKA Johnny Vulture. AKA Benjamin André. AKA Dookie. AKA The Love Haters. So much talent.

Watched the first four episodes introducing each of the main characters. Best thing about it was watching for places in Philly I remember from when I lived there (like the Melrose Diner).

I had a feeling I had seen FredWinn somewhere before. Never thought it was an old hip-hop performer. It is nice to see something out of the ordinary.
