I have been reading some of your posts about the S3 and NDS cable card in slot 2. It would not allow for any of the encrypted stations or stations above 22 to come in. Cablevison finally came and change the smart card in that slot. I noticed in the copy protect menu that card 2 prior to the installation of the card did not have any information under emm: Now it has some codes and says there is a match.

So far so good! I also do not believe this is going to last. The prior symptoms for this card would come and go.

Also prior to the new install when I went to test the channels for card 2 it would say no channels received.

If this continues I will certainly be in touch with TIVO support.

Do any of you who are experiencing the same thing have any further updates?

Does changing the card do the trick?

    Thanks

For the first time since speaking with CV, CC2 went out again. This time, instead of restarting the box, I pulled out CC2, waited 10 seconds, and pushed it back in. That worked. But it still does not fix the problem.

Changing the cards did not help me. I would call Tivo.

The good news, I managed to tweak my signal strength further and get a 95 signal strength on some channels. The bad news, the problem is still happening. I did some more investigating and this problem is slightly different from my past problems. It keeps happening almost every day where the other problem was less frequent. I'm also able to get channels that I don't subscribe to. I have a call into Tivo but maybe I'll also call Cablevision.

What kind of signal strength did you have and what kind of numbers are you getting now?

I just received some confirmation that there is indeed a dialogue between the 2 companies. They are aware of the problem and are trying to fix it.

I am having the same problem with Cablevision of Hauppauge. My wife or I must remove the cablecard in slot 2 almost every morning. This fixes the problem 90% of the time. The other 10% we receive the "inserted card is not a viewing card" error message. After I let the card cool off, it usually starts working. I hope this is fixed soon.

I used to do that full reset install 1 card at a time.. Now I use the Restart Tivo recorder which is easier and that works fine also.
Dont know if you tried that yet.

I am almost relieved alot of people are having the same exact problem...gives me hope that something is clearly not working right and its nothing we are doing wrong and hopefully a fix will be around soon!!!

Thanks to all who have taken this up with TIVO.

Is there somebody in particular to speak with over there to discuss the progress or lack of progress in addressing this issue.

Thanks again for those of you who are on top of this.

    Please keep us informed!!

I spoke to a supervisor who works for Tivo. He said that Tivo, Cablevision, Motorola and Cablelabs had a conference call to discuss this issue. According to the Tivo supervisor it looks like a problem with the Cable Cards because they are also seeing this behavior on some TV's. He said Tivo has made an engineer available in case they need help but they haven't needed it yet. I have a message into Cablevision to try and verify this.

That's great news. I can live with this problem as long as I know they are working on it.

I also spoke with an "advanced technician" at TIVO who verified that they had received several reports of problems related to NDS cards and they were working on this issue. She suggested that I call TIVO's cablecard technicians the next time this issue occurred so they could check the diagnostics.

So I believe there is hope that this issue can be resolved!

It is pretty frustrating to deal with!

I am currently talking to a tech..of which I am currently on hold while he does some research..
He had me doing some basic options with menus.. Conditonal Access>> CA Diagnotstics> for the card in slot 2 says "invalid" status.. That is really the only message about nonworking I can see regarding that card.

Even in Tivo diagnostics it says that the card 2 using tuner 0 is tuned to the correct channel with success.. but no picture

I am hoping for the best! he seems knowledgable so far!

Well... He tried to say it was the cable card.. but I explained to him that they have been changed 3 times and almost right away the same slot #2 has malfunctioned causing both tuners not to work..

OK he did not have a solution however he offered me an exchange, and since it was over a year I would have to pay $49.00 and he was nice enough to exchange the remote as well which works horribly.

So I will start over contact cablevision and have them bring out 2 new cards and again for now hope it works!

Mine doesn't fail right away but it has the same symptoms. I just swapped Tivos, got new carble cards and it made no difference.

Talked to tech at tivo and stated that they wanted CV to come out and swap cards again and if that didn't work that they would send out a new unit....we shall see...CV coming at the end of the week

I didnt accept that from Tivo only because I explained to him that it happens on the same slot same card every time no matter how many times I got new cards.. so he agreed it could be the tivo also, and allowed me to exchange it even after a over year has gone by.

I did get my new Tivo and CV came on Saturday 12/8 with new cards and binded them. All went perfect.

One Thing he did different: He said my signal was very high and that could most likely cause problems also. He put an Attenuator on the line going to the tivo to drop signal.

So far 3 days no problems at all even with dual tuner recording.

Looks good so far... I wont get my hopes up just yet!

Well I had it going good for a week or two, and then, just as I'm thinking, "hey, that cable card problem hasn't happened in a while," bam! there it goes again. :(

At least it's easier to deal with once every week or two as opposed to 3-4 times a week. I'm hoping that this one was just a fluke but I think I know better.

Same with me. It was good for about a week and then had the problem over the weekend. I haven't heard back from anyone at CV regarding the problem.
