Hey, I was just wondering if there's still a use for DirectTV TiVos. As in Series 2-4.

Can they still connect to DirecTV or a TiVo service? Do they need a CableCARD? I was told that service mostly shut off for them, but they are still able to be used with satellite?

It seems at the time they were made, the DirecTiVos were higher end than the standard TiVos.

    Thanks.

Series 3-4 cannot be used for DirecTV or satellite. These need lifetime service to continue to function.

What about Series 2? Can they use standard cable/antenna?

DirecTV NO longer will newly activate ANY SD receivers...or ANY non-MPEG4 HD receivers. So NO dice to either the SD or HD S2 D-Tivo's on DirecTV.
They also do NOT work on cable, & the S2 SD D-Tivo's do NOT work on OTA.
The ONLY thing you could use an S2 HD D-Tivo for, would be for live OTA TV...but because there would be no active sat/DVR service, you will NOT be able to record shows; only playback ones already recorded.
