Well he said he was waiting for Jay to call it quits. I believe he will do a Johnny and quietly disappear.
Even though a number here like Craig, I don't think he will get it.
Here's another article including a statement from Les Moonves:
Can't come soon enough...
I still like Dave a lot more than Craig. In fact, Craig is the only talk show host I can't watch longer than a minute or so. But don't really watch anyone each night anymore. Occasionally watch Jimmy Kimmel, but that is because I like Guillermo Rodriguez the former parking lot attendant. I am amazed that Latinos haven't protested the way they treat him. He is like a parody of everything wrong with some of Spanish speaking TV.
Yeah, is about 25 years too late.
There's a video clip embedded in the article from his show tonight where he said he would retire.
....and that's being generous....
Letterman has been, and always be funnier than Leno!!
As much as I enjoy Craig Ferguson, I don't think his brand of shtick would work well in the earlier timeslot. It will be interesting to see who they pick. I wonder if they'll have a slew of guest hosts over the next year or so to try people out?
Just because you say that, doesn't make it true.
Was just going to post the same sentiment.
I think the Twitterverse is saying Craig has already been picked to replace Dave though.
Craig Ferguson is a letch. I can not believe he is on tv. Then again I detested Conan.
There's long been a rumor that Craig has a clause in his contract that gives him the earlier time slot when Dave retires. But as we've discussed in various threads here about the issue, such clauses can always be renegotiated or bought out, so that doesn't guarantee that Craig will get the job. I think CBS has to do something significant to counter the two Jimmys, who are both killing Letterman in the ratings. I don't think moving Craig to 11:35 will accomplish that.
Seem to me that Jimmy Fallon is kicking his axx!!!
Well, there's always reruns of Love, American Style and the Love Boat.
This is a sad day in late night TV. (ok, I'm exaggerating.)
Though I admit I have a ton of Lettermans piled up on my Tivo, I do end up watching/listening (sometimes I end up essentially making podcast episodes and listen at 2x) to them eventually.
I was a Letterman fan for years. Unfortunately, he got lazy and boring about 10 years ago. Well that's when I noticed it starting and it's just gotten worse ever since. I stopped watching him about 5 years ago. I watched Monday night just to see Robin and was surprised to see how much he's aged in recent years. I kept thinking he looked past ready for retirement. What a coincidence.
After further investigation, that's what the buzz is, the Craig Clause.
I'm not sure if World Wide Pants continues to have a deal for the 11:30 show. If so, it seems like Dave can pick his replacement, pending CBS's approval.
