Maybe they're all clones?
I noticed that Amanda Tapping directed this episode.
Consciousness is a crock. But yeah, from the ad, it looks like the "traveller" is kept in suspended animation for the duration of the "trip". For simplicity and/or legal reasons, I presume, rather than any technical reason -- it might be confusing to the original to have to integrate a set of memories that ran through a time parallel to some of their own.
Ah, the old copying "teleporter" conundrum. If the copy gets the full set of memories, and isn't artificially limited, and the original isn't destroyed/suspended in some way -- then who gets to claim to be the "real" person? Me, I think the question is gibberish, based on dualist premises. Both people will perceive themselves as the continuation of the original, and both will be fully justified in thinking so. No test will ever trace the "consciousness" (read: soul) into one body, to the exclusion of the other, because there is no such thing.
But in this case, since the memories were (it seems) never fully copied, the clones don't perceive themselves as continuations of the originals.
Geez, uncle Vernon, spoilers!
The title clearly says episode 3!
I haven't seen episode 4 yet so I (and probably others) would appreciate it if you'd remove the episode 4 talk.
Maybe it would be better to get a mod to change the thread title, as episode 4 has been the exclusive subject so far.
But I came here to talk about Episode Three as I haven't seen Episode Four yet.
This one clearly says "Episode Three"and has the airdate of Episode Three in the thread title.
If you guys want to talk about Episode Four, start an Episode Four thread.
Talking about Episode Four in the clear here is against forum rules.
No, she directed Episode Four.
Dude, if you're so bound and determined to discuss Episode Three, you should start a thread for it!
"But"? This is defacto an episode 4 thread in everything except the title. We could ask everyone who has posted so far to delete their messages, but I doubt anyone would bother and I am certain not everyone would. So far nobody has felt the need to post about episode 3, so at this point their isn't any need for one. My advice to you is to avoid reading this thread from this point on because unfortunately you actually paid attention to the episode number but the other yahoos haven't. And if you have anything to say about episode 3, start a new thread with a slightly different title, this one is irrevocably damaged and beyond repair. It is no fault of your own good self, but that is the situation we find ourselves in. What cannot be cured must be endured.
I haven't even watched episode 3 yet. I haven't posted anything about episode 4. Why am I being asked to remove my post?
You replied to a post that was part of the Episode 04 discussion that really should be over in the newly created Ep04 thread.
So where is the episode 3 thread? I'm so confused ...
This is the episode Three thread.
But no one else wants to talk about Episode Three.
I will refrain from discussing this show anymore, as I inadvertently, unwittingly posted about episode 4 here.
There is an Episode 4 thread here.
I found episode three fairly non-eventful. The internal ship politics and "mutiny" brought up issues that are sure to resurface regarding things like ownership, pay, etc. I think there might also be some groundwork being laid about the Android and possible sentience and her/its rights, if any.
The ownership of the ship thing is weird. Are there no documents or recorded data needed to own something this big? It's just, we're on it so it's ours to keep or sell?
It was established in the pilot episode someone did an 'rm -rf /' (delete all) on the ship's records.
And clearly used sudo!
