Let's be fair here.
Tamar busted her butt to make it to the live show and no one could have predicted that she would actually have a blood clot and HAVE to quit.
I admit that I watched the Monday show Wednesday and knew she had already quit and had a moment where I thought she should have jumped up right before the elimination and said wait I am going to bow out...
But the reality is that at 9:55 PM on Monday night she was fighting to stay.
I like Tamar and think she is incredibly talented - however - I also think she way over extended herself between her talk show duties and releasing a new album. Taking on DWTS is biting off more than she could chew.
I also think if they bring Alexa back next week she might get sympathy votes and it could be unfair to other contestants...
I tend to agree. To be clear, Alexa was my favorite, she may not have been the "best" dancer, but she was having fun, and when she on (which seemed to be every other week), she was good.
But, I don't even see how they could bring her back? There would be no audience vote for her. How would they score her for elimination?
I want to be fair here.
I appreciate the fact that she busted her ass to make it back for the live show. But they thought at the time that she had pneumonia!
How is anybody going to recover from having pneumonia while meeting all her other obligations AND rehearsing for the show, which gets more and more demanding every week once you get into the territory of multiple dances every week?
Your body is telling you at that point, it has had enough. Take care of yourself, and bow out. Do it in a classy way, and let one of your fellow competitors have another week on the show. Whether the producers want to announce that you are safe first and the other person is in jeopardy is their call, not yours, because it's their show. Be a professional.
Yeah... I agree that a normal professional would probably do what you are suggesting...
But the entertainment world is so full of ego-centric folks, it doesn't surprise me that a celebrity would try to play the hero...make a grand entrance and then prove to everyone that they are better than their competitors by showing that they can survive another week (which demonstrates both their ability to dance well AND garner votes through their popularity)...
I especially feel like this is the case for Tamar, who felt constantly criticized...I think she felt like she still had something to prove...right to the bitter end...
Tom Bergeron said that if she did not make it back for the final routine the lawyers would have kicked her out. Seems to me she probably left the hospital before the final labs and radiology reports were read. I think that's disingenuous on her part and probably reckless on ABC's part.
Whoa! No new messages tonight?
Bindi's trio -- seriously undermarked.
Turning the paddles up to 11 wouldn't even begin to cover it.
My friend had that happen to him (lung blood clot) last year. He's still on blood thinning meds.
Completely agree. That was amazing! So good. Bindy better win this season, she has been the most consistent and has had some of the most memorable performances.
Here's what that trio made me think of.
You know how it is when you are watching So You Think You Can Dance when the contestants are at the point in the show they're dancing with the All-Stars? And Nigel and the other judges say the contestant danced up to the level of the All-Stars, only you don't know what the judges were smoking, because you couldn't take your eyes off the All-Star, and barely noticed the contestant was even dancing?
This was NOT one of those times.
I want to grab Nigel by the ear, haul him over to a monitor, and say, "Oh, yeah, Nigel? You want to see what it is like when a contestant REALLY dances as well as her pro partners? WATCH THIS!"
Plus -- who else did a solo in the middle of their trio? NO ONE. Not like that.
It's difficult for guys, because in ballroom especially, the job of the guy is to show off the girl. So the male celebs can have a disadvantage in cases like this where they have to command the stage.
But Bindi's solo showed she was plenty capable of taking focus and holding it all by her lonesome.
I don't mean to knock the other pros on the show, but Derek and Mark can bring the choreography -- and Bindi just KILLED that.
I pity the other three contestants for having to follow that performance.
I thought Alek's scores for his first dance were inflated... I am not saying he wasn't good... But he was a little stiff and tentative... I just don't get how that was a perfect 10 across all the judges...
There seems to be a secret formula...if you want high scores (and you are at least a mediocre performer...whether dancing or singing), sing or dance to a song that is patriotic, and have the American flag wave in the background...
Bindi's trio performance was cray-cray! Yikes... Simply amazing... Derek seems to me to be the absolute best professional coach on the DWTS squad... He's thoughtful, demanding, creative and uber-talented... He keeps threatening to leave the show...I hope he doesn't...
I wasn't so impressed with Bindi's first performance... Probably deserved the 9s... But still...if Alek got 10s, then Bindi's was certainly deserving of a 10 as well...
Carlos' trio performance was also quite impressive...
Yeah I didn't see the "sync" issues that Carrie Ann saw with Carlos's performance. Comparing Carlos and Alek side-by-side shows such a difference. Alek always seems to have a serious face that looks like he's concentrating so hard and Carlos just seems to be having fun with facial expressions to match.
I will be disappointed if she doesn't walk away with the mirror ball...
I noticed it. It was very close to the beginning. Each did a 1/4 to 1/2 turn. It appears that they were supposed to turn one right after the other, but Whitney and Carlos turned at almost the exact same time. I couldn't tell if Carlos or Whitney turned on the wrong beat.
But, I felt it was such a minor mistake in an otherwise great performance, I felt Carrie Ann was just nit picking.
Sometimes I think they just want to have the scores even out to give it to the fans at the end.
Ok, I will say it. I don't want Bindi to win anymore. Ok we get it, you lost your Dad 10 years ago. That has been drilled in to us the whole season. Did we really need the last dance to remind us? Derrick choreographed that Freestyle simply to evoke sympathy for Bindi. Yes, it is was nice and elegant, but it is was unnecessarily heart tugging. (And, if I am only judging the dance, it was just "nice" contemporary, nothing more.)
Sorry if that makes me heartless.
The problem is that, with Carlos leaving last night, I am not a big fan any more of any of the final three. I feel that Alec should have gone home several weeks ago (and certainly before Carlos and even Alexa.) Something about Nick just doesn't do it for me. And I have said my peace about Bindi.
But, I think Bindi takes the mirror ball over Nick (with Alec eliminated first). She is, no doubt, the best of the three left.
Also, can they please replace Erin? She make almost every interview about herself. I say bring back Leah!
Wow... Did we really have to re-live those dances from earlier in the season? Much of the program was painful to watch...
Despite not being a fan of Derek and Bindi's freestyle, the right couple was crowned the Champions tonight... I really wish they did something fun and spectacular for their freestyle... They certainly were capable of doing something completely incredible...
The overall results were pretty close to what I expected... My personal opinion is that Carlos should have been in the final 3 (and possibly the runner-up).
Glad that Bindi won. She was by far the best. Carlos should have got 3rd or 2nd.
Surprised that Alek is going on the tour, but I guess he probably can more easily fit it into his schedule.
Glad that Len will be back next season.
Yeah I missed Len, but hate 4 judges as I don't see Julianne Hough going anywhere.
Also glad Bindi won. This is Derek Hough's 6th mirror ball...crazy!
I'm surprised they don't have more than one (well, two, but Hayes will be there on "select" dates and I don't see him in the ads like I do with "Special Guest Star" Alek) contestant; they did the same thing last year. I assume it's because they figure that the people who would want to watch the tour show are more interested in watching the dancing than the celebrities (which is why the So You Think You Can Dance? tours do so well).
