This puts the cast back the way it was. Must have been a humbling experience for the showrunner.

Wow. is he worth all that dough? Especially on an ensemble show?

Must be kind of a humbling experience for Joe Mantegna, to have it made so clear that he's a second banana!

I agree with betts4. Hotch is essential to the team.

They just need to find a new wife for him. I hear Jenna Elfman's not doing anything right now. :D

To me Hotch is a very bland, uninteresting character. Not worth the millions they're apparently paying the actor.

It's interesting to me that CM and CSI both did the same thing (replaced the lead actor with another high-profile actor, but playing a subordinate role), but CM did it very well and CSI did not.

The way it was? You mean Mandy Patinkin is back?

(Just kidding.. as you can tell, I haven't seen this show in a very long time, but it would be funny to see him return to ANOTHER show.. like he did with Chicago Hope.)

I actually thought about that when I first posted this. THAT was the REAL CM.

But we's takes what we's can gets. :D

His character is that way because that is how he is written. Just as Gracia is a crazy IT gal and Spencer Reid is a geeky young guy on the team and....they all fit in the slots created and that is making it work. They have broken out of the molds at times and that has worked also, but the formula is set so why mess with it too much.

Although I suspect it's written that way because that's the way the actor is, or they hired the actor because they wanted a bland, stoic leading man type...at least, he's always been bland when I've seen him in anything, including action movies where he's the lead.

Regardless of the reason, it works. I think the ensemble meshes nicely and am glad to see it back intact.

Yes, I think Gibson is a good example of a so-so actor playing a role perfectly suited for him. Sometimes good casting and good writing can elevate an actor beyond his natural talent level.

And we have seen Hotch having some fun with his son when he wasn't in leadership mode.

Truth be told, I can't think of more than a handful or so of television actors / actresses who are anything more than "so-so". Not a lot of great talent on the tube from my perspective - just being in the right role at the right time (and yes, good writing makes up for myriad shortcomings :) ).
