There was the scene where the phone rang (I think while Hotch and his wife were talking to each other) and when Hotch answered, the caller hung up. Within seconds, her cell phone started ringing - and looks were exchanged between her and Hotch. Seems like the tell-tale signs of an affair to me - especially with him gone so much and that being the source of friction playing out at the moment. I don't think she moved out to move in with the boyfriend, but I think there is a boyfriend.

As for Mandy, wasn't his exit from Chicago Hope similar? Or he tried to leave like that, then didn't? Seems to my recollection (such as it is) that this isn't the first time something like this happened with him.

I think you got what happened in that scene backwards. It was Hotch's cell that rang first - it was the call from the BAU. He didn't answer. But it was urgent - so they called again on his home phone, which he did answer (which only pissed off his wife more).

I keep pretty current on entertainment news and I don't recall ever hearing any reason behind his decision not to show up for work...

I'm with the "it was the BAU calling for Hotch" crowd. I never got a hint of an affair.

I'd heard he'd pulled a "Caruso" and left the show for greener pastures. :p

    Exactly.

And, no he didn't leave Chicago Hope the same way. He TOLD the producers he wanted to leave, and then they negotiated ample time to write him out in a way that made sense. He didn't just NOT SHOW UP.

As for the affair, I remember the phone calls this way:. Home phone rings. Hotch answers, gets no one. Her cell phone rings. She takes her purse (containing the ringing phone and leaves the room. Hotch's cell phone rings, and he answers and talks to his team.

I've already deleted, but that's what I thought at the time.

This is how I remember it, too. The first call was a hang up - then her cell phone in her purse rang immediately after that. Hotch gave her a long, pissed off stare. Then shortly after that the BAU called.

ETA: ^^ and what Ntombi said.. :)
