I liked the finale but the baptism stuff dragged on a bit long. Breakfast at the strip joint was funny especially with the Norton cameo right after him getting badmouthed by the stripper. Surprisingly I enjoyed Artie again. Hopefully he will have a part in S2 assuming he's alive and not in jail. I think that's the plan according to some interviews with Pete. Looks like they are setting up a relationship with Artie and the Natalie Morales. It's not like she's a bit part actress having been a major character on Grinder. And Artie is known for dating "up".

The line comparing him to a lesser "Jim Gaffigan" was almost exactly how I was going to describe Pete's last standup. Though mine wouldn't have been as negative as it was in the show.

    Bumpity bump...

Season 3 is currently airing and I gotta say, as good as S2 was, this season is shaping up to be even better.

I just watched episode 3 and his girlfriend, that he met last episode, did something so cool for him to believe in himself. And the end credits song was the theme from "Chico and the Man". That was the sitcom that made Freddie Prinze a huge star. Ray Romano was also in this episode. Another stand-up comic that made it BIG on a TV sitcom. I guess Pete Holmes is on his way...oh wait...he's already there...LOL!

I'm enjoying this season as well. I think we have to mark spoilers so:

I thought it was a bit cringeworthy for Pete to have to sit though all that crap that his GF made him do by sitting in the front row. I get the whole, self confidence thing, but, making him take all that crap from his fellow comedians, where the stupid fedora AND have the sex toys with them made it very uncomfortable for him and not sure where it helped him.

It was a good season, but not as good as the previous two.
Great finale with him sticking it to Mullaney on stage and gaining his respect. However, didn't need the...
...sappy ending of him kissing Ali and walking off into the night with her as the camera pulled back. Would have been better if he accepted John Mullaney's invite to get something to eat with the other comics.

I hated the writing on this episode. Not sure why it bothered me so much.

Pete calls Ali and she says she can't make it to his show because "she broke up with her boyfriend" which makes no sense then is available 2 hours later for a hotdog.
    WTF!

I like the show overall and bummed it was cancelled. Sucks.

I binged this show over the past couple weeks because I know someone who was guesting in Episode 7. I have to say, I grew to really like this show and am bummed it's over. Looking forward to future projects from Pete.

I wonder if Netflix or Amazon might pick it up . Or maybe it’s time to end it...

I'm surprised it was canceled. It was one of my must watch shows. (i.e watched new episode every week) Not a lot of those these days. I thought this season was good. Took a bit of a sharp turn with the new girlfriend at the end, but we all knew he was gonna end up with Ali so they had to get rid of her somehow.

I liked the series and was a bit disappointed with the ending as well. It was always an enjoyable half hour of TV. Easy to watch, not too much thought, but yet adult in the way it was written. it was actually very Judd Apatow really. I know some people were upset they went away from him "crashing" at other people's apartments, but, "crashing" could mean so many different things.

On Mulaney. I guess he's been popular for awhile, but it feels to me that his popularity really only became mainstream over the last year or so? Or maybe i just wasn't paying attention :). I watched his last Netflix special recently and he was pretty funny, but nowhere close to the best I've ever seen.

That seems like an odd comment to me. I never got the sense that Pete and Ali were soul mates or something. She really seemed to despise him when they first met, and then came to tolerate him. But I never saw her as "the one that got away" or something and definitely didn't expect them to get back together. Even as I watched this episode and saw them kiss, my immediate reaction was "Why is she kissing him? She doesn't really even like him? I guess she's just in the right mental place for a quick rebound."

Really? I thought it was pretty clear from the episode where they stayed in the condo together that they still had feelings. She always just seemed jealous of him, not that she didn’t like him.

What did she have to be jealous about? When she met him, he was a pathetic loser, with no place to live, still pining for his ex, and passing out flyers on the street corner in exchange for mic time.

He had a TV show ("Mulaney") on FOX for 2 years (2014-2015) with
Martin Short and Elliott Gould. I like Mulaney's standup, but stopped watching the TV show after a few episodes.

I think Mulaney started to gain mainstream popularity when the Stefon character on SNL became popular. Mulaney was the creator of that character and was the primary reason why those appearances were so fun, because Mulaney wouldn't tell Bill Hader what the character would be saying, and so Hader would be reading these ridiculous things for the first time live and it almost always resulted in him trying (and failing) to keep a straight face.

I'm guessing Mulaney got his sitcom largely based on his work on SNL, primarily Stefon. Unfortunately, the sitcom was pretty much garbage. It felt like studio execs forced it to follow a bunch of 80s style tropes, and Elliot Gould seemed like he was sleepwalking through his performances.

Oct 2014-Feb 2015. Only 13 episodes total. It was just a bad Seinfeld rip-off for some reason.

I watched it, it was not good. Like a bad laugh track sitcom you'd see as a spoof on another show.

I had the exact opposite vibe. I always thought they were meant to be together. Two kind of screwed up comics found each other. You could see them building to this all season. His relationship with the blonde girl (can't remember her name) never seemed like it would work from the beginning. She couldn't live with his lifestyle and tried to dominate him, and eventually it was too much. Then when he met Ali at the comedy workshop in Jersey, you could see there was a spark there. Eventually, I assumed they'd wind up together.

I had no idea he wrote for SNL. I remember the Stefan character but always assumed it was a character that Hader developed and was not written fro him. I don't watch SNL all that religiously anymore. I actually haven't since the 80s, but do watch a few times a year if there's a host or musical guest on I like. Never heard of his sitcom.
