Pardon me if this has been asked and answered, but I searched and couldn't find it anywhere in the forums --

I went to one of my local (Phoenix-East Valley) Cox Digital Stores to pickup a tuning adapter self-install kit for my S3. There I was told that --unless I wanted to install two SDV boxes-- I would have to wait for the newer Motorola boxes to become available because the ones they have currently only support a single cable card.

    What's the story on this?

    Thanks!

As usual, you were given incorrect information by Cox.

The original Series 3 TiVo requires two cablecards, and a single tuning adapter works fine in that configuration.

The two cards can be either single or multi-stream. I would imagine that Cox only has multi-stream cards now, but they work just fine in an original S3.

If the self-install kit only has a single cablecard, you will need to obtain a second card separately. But, you don't need a second tuning adapter.

Thanks -- I picked up one of the Cisco boxes from a different Cox store the other day and it installed without a hitch.
