Will pvTivo allow me to copy files *back* to my Tivo Roamio? Or stream them?

yes, once its setup and running on the computer, go to your Tivo shows and it would be an item with your PC name on it.

Is that true if one is running Hydra? Can Roamio's even run Hydra? I've got a Roamio and Bolt, so could be confusing things.

In any case, with my non-hydra Roamio and Bolt, I can transfer video from my PC running pyTivo to either TiVo. These videos don't have to be TiVo generated, either. Pretty much any mpeg-2, mp4, flv, etc, obtained from anywhere, can be sent back to your TiVo. e.g. I can rip physical DVDs on my PC, and transfer to and play them on my TiVo.

    1) How do I tell if I have the dreaded "Hydra" update?
    2) Is there a way to downgrade from Hydra?
    3) If I *do* have Hydra, will pyTivo allow me to copy PC-> Tivo or do I need another tool?

    1) I don't know. I don't have it.
    2) Yes, But, from what I've read, it means you lose all your recordings.
    3) From what I've read, if you have Hydra, there is NO other tool. No way.

Look, you probably don't have hydra. Is your UI xp basically the same as it has been for the past 15 years? Probably not hydra. Just, install pytivo and try it. It can't hurt anything.

Under System Information, the version is 21.7.2 if Hydra. Non-Hydra is 20.7.4
Transfers to Tivo are ancient compared to Hydra and disabled.

Verizon came and changed my router last week. Could that be the problem? I thought that there were some firewall rules I had to have in place... forwarding ports, etc., to allow the Tivo to transfer shows back and forth...

    Edit: I apparently am non-Hydra (I must be S.H.I.E.L.D. ;-)

If you can make a Tivo Service connection, then it should work.

That's the weird part... it doesn't.

On the Roamio, I no longer have the "NOW SHOWING ON <my computername>".

That may be broken. Please check other threads such as -> "Now Playing List Not Available"

Yes it’s broken. And tivo support is useless.

Ok. I implemented the fix and have "NOW PLAYING ON..." back on my Tivo. But I'd like to try PyTivo.

I have it running, but I don't see any new folders on the Roamio. Do I need to stop using Tivo Desktop?

Sorry, I don't know. I have Bonjour as a manual start. I use the PyTivo Desktop, which is very simple. The folder is different, but still at the bottom of My Shows.

It would seem logical to just use one transfer service at a time.

Maybe I should say I haven't used either program this year until the last few days. I have other methods to save off programs. I am by no measure an expert.

    Should I start another thread?

I can toggle Tivo Desktop on and off in the system tray, and "NOW SHOWING" will appear/disappear on the Tivo. But nothing I do will make the pyTivo folder (?) show up on the Tivo...

My recommendation: shut down TiVo Desktop and anything associated with it completely; and then install (not as a service) pyTivo Desktop and see if that will do the trick--should only take a few minutes (it installs and works that easily).

How do you shut down Tivo Desktop completely? More than just system tray, click on icon and say "pause server" I guess?

    Edit: right-click icon, select "Exit"?
