I use the TiVo iPad app to discover what's new and on and browse movies, might not do the recommendation thing but way simpler to browse.

You do realize that all of that guide data is licensed and copyrighted. It accounts for a substantial portion of the TiVo monthly service charges. So any manipulation and re-publishing of that data as you propose is likely illegal.

Doesnt seem to be a problem for Kmttg since it DOES access that guide data. And I am not proposing to publish it to begin with... but allow people to sort in a way that they used to. As far as legal action... bring it on... am furious enough to battle that idiocy in court.

So you can still use Search for this right? Just change your Options (A) to Name, Record Only and the Categories you want. The one thing that I miss is that with the old Search by Title is that you could enter A (or 0) and start at the beginning of the list and scroll through them all. With the new search you have to go back and select each letter (or number) one at a time to get those matches (A, then B, then C, etc) so it does take a little longer but it's not that bad especially if you just look at the matches that start with the letter.

I would do something similar ever month or so looking for movies to record on our old S3's.

Any idea what TitanTV is using for its data source?

I've set my uncle up w/ a Roamio OTA, but it's falling down on his number one priority... finding and scheduling Cubs games. The Roamio's guide didn't list last Sunday's game nor tomorrow's (w/ tomorrow's also missing from TVGuide.com), but tomorrow's game *is* shown within the TitanTV listing.

While there is no copyrights found, it does match Screener. I'll say Nielsen.

Facepalm. When I checked Screener, earlier, I had neglected to specify my zip code to display our local programming.

'gist: Yep, Screener matches TitanTV, with both showing tomorrow's Cubs game. And TVGuide & TiVos not. Deeply disappointing, TiVo.

    Thanks, @JoeKustra.

No problem. I often check tvguide.com and tv.com (crappy web sites) to see if they have updates. If my TiVo has a guide problem, and I can see it on the losers, I know it's usually a waste of time to force a connection. Screener is my go to site, but it's still 99%. Nothing is perfect.

The more I've thought about things, the more I agree with the OP's points. How nice it is when I find a nice movie I hadn't thought about, in my Suggestions. How much nicer if there would be an easy-to-use, comprehensive browse area. One would just assume it would be there.

I must confess.. the search is the ONE feature I had yet to thoroughly investigate... and I was surprised at the filters and how it was implemented.... but alas, it is even technically worse than using the filters in the main guide as far as time consumption. An example is this: If you filter for TV shows : Documentaries... the show 'My Cat From Hell' may come up. Well it will come up when you search under 'M' AND when you search for 'C' and for 'F' and 'H'... if that isnt bad enough... if there were multiple named episodes, they all would come up too (old Tivo NEVER did that).
However, it appears that at least only ONE instance of a given named episode will come up, not every time that particular episode in ON... but if you filtered for 'documentaries' in the main guide... they would have each and every listing, but the same selection wouldnt come up potentially multiple times.... so it isnt clear if there is an advantage of 'Search' over the 'Guide' ...

But yes, I know what you are saying about entering 'A' or 0... 'A' is where i would always start (and just use the channel 'up' button to see the numbers to start with before preceeding down the line (max efficiency on S-II was to start with 'A' LOL).

Just wish that search was ACTUAL alphabetical order ( for example, searching for 'H' shouldnt give me 'my cat from Hell'... should only get that when searching for 'M'.... would be nice if you could toggle it between 'true alphabetical' and 'occurance alphabetical' since both have their advantages in a given circumstance.
The old Tivo's were H E A V E N compared to how it is done today (though, like I said in earlier comments, it would have been nice if you could have done things like filter by date and DEFINITELY filter out movies with a 'thumb' rating (up or down) so you would only see 'new' stuff instead of stuff you have seen or reviewed the description of before and didnt care for).

The word 'search' really isnt appropriate for what it did... 'Browse' is good, but 'discover' is more accurate. :)

Thanks for your reply though HerronScott.... Sad... I really was excited there for a few minutes.
