Got my brand new $149 out-of-warranty lifetime upgrade Tivo today. Promptly yanked the 80gb HD and backed it up to a 120gb drive with:

    mount dev/hda1 /mnt
    mfsbackup -f 9999 -1s0 /mnt/tivo8_07.bak /dev/hdb

No problem; backed up to 2,023mb uncompressed and about 1,148mb on the Fat32 destination.

Yanked the brand new tivo drive and put the new Fat32 image in hda1 with my 320gb final tivo drive as hdb; so the drives were moved around a bit:

    Problem:
    mount dev/hdb1 /mnt
    mfsrestore -s 127 -zxpi /mnt/tivo8_07.bak /dev/hdd

runs through its decompressions and crashes with a decompression error at 99.44%

    What'd I do wrong? :(

Try backing up your original drive again. The backup process may not have returned errors, but it's likely the backup image was bad if it won't restore properly to the new drive. Or just try a piped backup/restore to the new drive.

Thanks. Redid the backup with Mfslive (the size changed slightly) and then restored it to my WD 320gb drive. Now at 355 hours.

And it just rebooted while I am watching the 4.5 hour rain delayed Tiger game. I hope it is only because it is updating the firmware since it rebooted exactly at 2:00 am.

    That's most likely.
