"24" RESETS THE CLOCK FOR SEASON SEVEN WITH TWO-NIGHT PREMIERE EVENT SUNDAY, JAN. 13, AND MONDAY, JAN. 14, ON FOX

CTU Disbanded, Set in Washington, DC; Fan-Favorite "Tony Almeida" Returns

"Day 7" to Air All Originals All Season into June

The innovative, addictive, Emmy Award-winning television series 24 resets the clock for Season Seven with a special two-night premiere event Sunday, Jan. 13 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Monday, Jan. 14 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

In keeping with FOX's commitment to airing original programming year-round, the intense season will unfold in 24's regular 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT time period beginning Monday, Jan. 14, and will continue to air all originals all season into June.

"Day 7" of 24 will continue the show's unique and trend-setting format with compelling new elements. With CTU dismantled, the show's setting moves to Washington, DC, where JACK BAUER (Kiefer Sutherland) faces trial for his actions in the pursuit of justice. Bauer's day gets off to a shocking start when former colleague TONY ALMEIDA (Carlos Bernard), last seen in "Day 5," returns after being left for dead by a terrorist conspirator in CTU's infirmary.

"Tony's uncertain fate near the end of 'Day 5' left the door open for his return," said executive producer/show-runner Howard Gordon. "And since there was no silent clock at the conclusion of his last appearance the 24 tribute to a major character's demise we always kept this as a possibility."

Bernard's return highlights a list of notable cast members clocking in for Season Seven, including the previously announced Cherry Jones ("The Heiress") as President ALLISON TAYLOR and Janeane Garofalo ("The Larry Sanders Show") as FBI Agent JANIS GOLD. Colm Feore ("Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee") will play First Gentleman HENRY TAYLOR and Bob Gunton ("Desperate Housewives") is White House Chief of Staff ETHAN KANIN.

FBI Agents assigned to the team investigating the crisis befalling Bauer include Garofalo's Agent Gold in addition to Annie Wersching ("General Hospital") as Agent RENEE WALKER, Jeffrey Nordling ("Dirt") as Agent LARRY MOSS and Rhys Coiro ("Entourage") as Agent SEAN HILLINGER. John Billingsley (PRISON BREAK) portrays security specialist MICHAEL LATHAM. Although CTU is no longer, CHLOE O'BRIAN (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and BILL BUCHANAN (James Morrison) are back for another momentous day of shocking events.

As part of News Corp.'s global commitment to fighting climate change, 24 has pledged significant and innovative changes to its production practices with the goal of saving energy and reducing carbon emissions. Created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, 24 is a production of Real Time Productions and Imagine Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Joel Surnow, Robert Cochran, Howard Gordon, Evan Katz, Jon Cassar, Manny Coto, David Fury, Kiefer Sutherland and Brian Grazer are the executive producers.

I don't have a problem with Tony coming back. The show's getting so ridiculous that I wouldn't be surprised if David Palmer's corpse came back to run the country.

You know what bothers me more than anything else? Forget the "Jack doesn't go to the bathroom or sleep or eat." Has anyone else noticed that the last season took place in May 2011? Or that in 5 (linear) years of the show we're on our 6th president? Is this the U.S. or Italy? Has anyone considered if this show's a propaganda arm of the real government that just proves that our government isn't that bad?

Well, considering they had to come up with the entire season concept from scratch about a month before production began because Fox vetoed the storyline they'd been developing all year, I guess we should expect something off the wall...
Did it? Have they ever said what year a season takes place?

I'm not questioning your math, just your starting point...

I believe it's somewhere in the Wikipedia history of the show, but it has been established (from a drivers license that was shown) that the first season was essentially present time (March 2002 was the day it took place). Going forward using the "xxx months later", it can be established that the last season took place in May 2011. They also acknowledged that presidential elections take place in 2002, 2006, 2010, etc. So if we've got a new president, the next season should take place sometime in 2015.

And yet Jack will still have a circa-2007 Treo 700p. :p

Day 1 would have had to have been 2004 if a driver's license said it was at least 2002.

Well, all I'd say that establishes is that somebody was careless about blurring out the date on the driver's license. But unless there has been a specific reference in the show itself to a date--that is, something deliberately scripted, not just a continuity gaffe--we should probably consider the entire series to be just timeless--which I'm sure is their intent.
I also don't think we should assume the elections in the 24verse are on the same cycle as in our world. Hell, maybe they don't even have numbered years! :D

If the show takes place when some people have asserted, I'm much less impressed with the technology- but it does explain the 15-minute trips across LA. Now just show us the damn flying cars!! :D

That article makes me even less excited about 24 than I already was, which wasn't much. It sounds like a complete train wreck.

That gives me a good idea for next season of 24.... Jack standing in line all day to renew his driver's license!

I liked the Tony character. They should have never "killed him off" in the first place.

Personally I'll believe the Tony Almeida thing when I see it. The producers have stated many, many times that not only is Tony dead, but that the silent clock was meaningless and had nothing to do with tribute.

So they're either backpedaling or this TV Guide article is completely bogus.

Well, its not a TVGuide article. It was a press release from Fox telling us about the upcoming season. I might agree with the backpedaling, they had planned to shoot in Africa but Fox decided it was to expensive and forced the writers to scrap the idea. I am moderately interested in what they have come up with instead but really hope that they can move the story to someplace other than LA (again).

So Jack's going to stand trial for his "crimes". In terms of the 24-verse, that sound infinitely dull. An entire season of flashbacks?

The wife still wants to watch it, so I'll probably just read while it's on in the background.

My expectations are very low after hearing about how Fox put a stop to an entire storyline because of expenses. I suspect this season will make the randomness of last season seem like a masterpiece in comparison. This press release doesn't put me at ease since it can't even give us a one line summary about this season, beyond that Jack "faces trial," has a crisis surround him (umm, yeah, that's how the show works), and the setting has changed to DC.
