what is the origin of the phrase shipper video? i get the concept from seeing any of the other videos, but it is driving me nuts and Google is surprisingly not much help thus far.

The term "shipper" refers to a fan of the show that is dedicated to the idea of a romantic coupling between two specific characters on the show (whether or not the producers and actors agree or even if it makes any sense.)

Shipper videos are made by Shippers to celebrate the "relationship" between the two characters.

I thought that this episode was a riot and an excellent spoof of clip shows.

And yes, Troy's line about puncturing the raft slayed me.

You're missing the point. The writers didn't come up with the term. Somebody in Twitter used it to make fun of Community and the writers picked it up.

Yeah, I wrote that wrong. I recognized a bunch of them, but I didn't remember quite a bunch and figured they were made up.

Hahaha, no, I really like this one. I think any regular TV watcher can relate to clip shows :) The first clip scene wife says, I don't remember that one, and then I realized...this is a sendoff on clip shows, and laughed. It was awesome!!

I guess my absolute love of Goodfellas makes the chicken fingers episode my all time favorite so far... but it would be followed closely with the paintball ep.

I initially read that as "my absolute love of chicken fingers makes the Goodfellas episode my all time favorite", and I was like, "wow, I guess she really likes chicken fingers..." :D

I was also wondering about this. The scene where he poked a hole in the raft is a good example. Everyone was dressed up, moved to a river and there was a deflated raft all for three seconds of video to be used in the show.

I'm pretty sure that Community and Glee tape on sound stages that are next door to each other, so the two casts see each other frequently and there's a fun rivalry going between them. This isn't the first time Community has included a not-so-subtle joke about Glee and I'm sure it won't be the last.

"The Simpsons Already Did It" (http://www.tvrage.com/South_Park/episodes/159644)..

    or rather, didn't they?

In the epguides.com list, I see two clip shows, from 93 and 94. I didn't see mention that they *weren't* really clip shows.. But I have a vague memory of the Simpsons doing this joke already (clip show that wasn't actually old clips).

Is my memory faulty (again), or did The Simpsons really do it?

Probably not as much as you think.
The location shots were most likely done on the Paramount backlot.

Bump because my wife and I are behind on our TV watching and just got to this episode last night...

Loved Troy's raft comment and Pierce's "CA-CAW! CA-CAW!" food thievery technique.
