Not sure I want to watch now. Geez, guys, keep the origin to the pilot. Move on.

Wow. Sounds like I shouldn't even bother with what I've got recorded.

I think what we've seen so far is pretty interesting set-up. It's starting to annoy me a little that after two hours they still haven't gotten the main characters together yet, but this kind of slow-burn storytelling CAN be effective...I just hope they know what they're doing and build it into something great.

Too many super hero shows want to be Smallville. All build up. At least Gotham showed us full fledged villains and commissioner Gordon.

Fortunately, this doesn't seem to be that. Just an overly extended origin story. Which I hope won't take all season, but I'm sure it won't be any longer than that, and probably shorter. Once they finally meet (in the real sense of the word, not just random encounters), I suspect things will ramp up.

One reviewer recommends the audience hang in there, at least until the 4th episode:
This adaptation "...is so concerned with being a character-based drama it starts out slow and talky, but sticking with it pays off." Glen Wheldon at NPR knows his comic books, and his review does address the original source as well as what has changed.

That article nicely sums up what I felt about the premiere, and makes me think that my hopes for future episodes will be rewarded!

Still too long. I want superhero antics, not long origin stories. Longer than a movie.

A 2 hour movie vs a 10 episode (7 hour) series? I'll give the show a bit more time to develop the characters. Although there are definitely storytelling methods that would allow more action. Telling the story after they've been partners, and filling in the backstory gradually in flashbacks, etc. I find that a bit annoying. I guess it depends where you want the current perspective to be. The childhood origin story is in flashbacks. I certainly don't want the main plot line to be around that.

This show sums up what I've felt for a long time. Origin stories usually suck.* They go on way too long. They're only interesting as back story. To me, origin stories should be 15 minute flashbacks later in the series or the in first movie that explains how the heroes got their powers. Do the full origin story once the show/movie is established. I like my super heroes kicking ass and taking names five minutes after the opening credits.** But Marvel doesn't seem to care what I think. This show is interesting to me and I'm going to stick with it but they really need to ramp things up if they're only doing 10 episodes.

*And to this day I fondly remember the origin stories of Astro Boy, 8th Man, Ultra Man and Speed Racer. (And I still remember the episode that Ultra Man got his ass kicked and the Science Patrol actually killed the monster.)

** I will admit that the Marvel tv series adaptation that had fully powered people at its start was Inhumans and that was one of the worst tv shows I've ever watched. Beyond awful.

I really liked Black Panther but it seemed like an origin story that was trying not to be an origin story.

And once an origin story has been established, we don't need another one just because some director wants to put his own spin on it. We didn't need another Hulk reboot. We didn't need another Spider-Man reboot.

Geez, if it were up to you we'd be left with the Spider-Man 70's TV series. Now that would have been sad.

Apparently this GIF is more entertaining than the show.

I just watched Impulse on YouTube Red and felt the same way. The show wasn't bad, but the development of the power was too slow.

Meh. The thing I like best about "superhero" movies/TV shows/comics is the origin stories and the plot development. My least favorite thing is the actual action. By now, I've seen every action sequence possible. Kick, punch, run, jump, etc. There is rarely any tension and the hero never dies.

This is why I always like the first film in a Marvel series much, much better than the sequels. In the first film, you get the origin story. In the others, you don't.

    Which films exactly?

Iron Man: Certainly the best film, I agree
First Thor: Not good. Noticeably worse than Ragnarok
First Captain America: Worse than the next two
Guardians of the Galaxy: I'd call it a wash
Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man: TBD
Spider-Man: ??? I guess if Civil War counts as an origin story, I'd agree. Homecoming was meh.

It does mostly hold true for the TV shows, though. Not Agents of SHIELD and I sincerely hope not Iron Fist, though.

I’d agree that Winter Soldier was much better than The First Avenger but Civil War was horrible.

I just wish that they would pick up the pace a little.

I'm totally unfamiliar with the comic. I'm curious as to what they do once they fully realize their abilities and team up. Do they fight crime? Fight aliens? Right wrongs? I'm not looking to be spoiled. Those are just the questions in my head.

Back in the day, they went after the kind of criminals (sometimes super-powered, sometimes not) that prey on street kids. They were runaways who were kidnapped by drug dealers and experimented on (which gave them their powers), so they had a thing about drug dealers and protecting runaways. Since then, at times they've become more generic superheroes and at times returned to their street-level roots.
