My D-Link DIR-601 router was rendered obsolete when my 2 year old yanked off the antenna.

I replaced it with a Linksys E2500, which I'm happy with so far. I have been able to get the tivos on the network, and transferring files back and forth, but when they try to reach out to the tivo service to get schedule updates, they can't connect.

The message that tells me to unblock ports comes up.

I know how to port forward, but.. I think that relates to inbound traffic.

How do I unblock these ports for what I imagine is outbound traffic?

    Thanks all!

Port forwarding has nothing to do with it. Just unblock the ports that it needs to have open in the firewall and you should be golden.

    1. Check the firmware on the router and update if needed. Versions before 1.02 had many issues with remote connections.

    2. Try using one of the public Open DNS servers
