I thought 2.5 is the "magic number". It sounds like Chuck will remain a "bubble show". NBC now has an extra 5 hours to program. I'll speculate Chuck will get renewed with low ratings.

At this point, any speculation as to what a bubble show is for NBC is out the window, in my opinion. As you say, NBC now has 5 extra hours they weren't anticipating on having to schedule. Additionally, Chuck's rather strong start on Sunday night means that the show has potential, even if that potential may not mean remaining on Monday nights.

Chuck's Sunday ratings weren't that great. The 9p episode finished in 4th place and the 10p episode finished in 3rd place (Fox doesn't have a 10p show). A Criminal Minds rerun got significantly higher ratings at 10p and Desperate Housewives doubled Chuck's ratings at 9p.

The ratings were only strong if you consider the ratings other NBC shows earn. I suspect Chuck wouldn't even be a bubble show on another network.

NBC has an extra 5 hours to program and has lots of shows with low ratings.

Great episode. I'm glad there wasn't any Buy More storyline for this episode as Awesome & Ellie are so much better.

Given there was enough poison to kill "a thousand men" in the syringe, shouldn't Casey be dead? Also, if you get shot with a submachine gun at such close range, does bullet stay embedded if it didn't shatter a bone?

Didn't watch any of the previews so I'm very curious as to what happens next!

As for the syringe, the guy didn't hit the plunger so the poison didn't leave the syringe. However, when they showed a closeup of the syring when the guy said it had enough to kill 1000 men, there was a drop of poison oozing out. Maybe it got shaken off before the needle entered Casey's leg!

If it were on another network, chances are, more people would watch it. At least there would be a better chance of people giving it a shot.

Sorry but the previews are a part of the showtime (8-9 or 9-10 or whatever timezone you live in), and therefore can be discussed here. It's not like it's a random preview two days later during the evening news.

That said, I wouldn't have run the preview after Monday's show if I was NBC, the suspense and buildup through this week would have been better IMO. It just ended up being like a 5-10 second bewilderment that turned into a big letdown immediately afterward.

Actually they're not, and they can't, at least according to the official rules that I'm sure someone who cares more than I will post for you shortly.

    Edit: found them

Not that I personally care mind you, I actually watch the previews myself. But some people get pretty adamant about things like that on the board.

I suspect on another network (say, CBS after NCIS on Tuesdays) Chuck would be dong just fine.

Yeah, as kleinman says, that battle was fought and won by the forces of unreason many years ago. We are thus no longer allowed to do things the sane way. :D

Are we really going to have a discussion on the topics of previews again?

Guess I should pop the popcorn!

    Ellie in the coat closet.....yowzers!

Frankly, I'd rather this be on Sunday nights. It's up against too many good things on Monday...

I regret to inform you that a rule posted in 2005 is still a rule. Until or unless it is changed, and fat chance of that.

(Please note that the cited thread is the official Rules for Posting thread, currently stickied at the top of the Now Playing forum.)

I don't like the rule either, but this horse has been beaten to death in this forum several times. The rules HAVE NOT and WILL NOT be changed despite the wishes of people that don't care for them as they exist now. If you don't like it you'll get invited to leave or be given a temporary vacation from this community (by the moderators) for failing to comply so just follow the rules and keep on topic for the current discussion.

(If you insist on seeing something newer on the 'off topic' of spoilers, then see this thread: Why are the spoiler rules so hard for people to understand of late? last updated back in November 2009. Have fun reading through all of it. Each and every bit of it. And then remind yourself that none of that discussion changed the rules that were written in 2005.

In regard to this particular episode and the preview in question, this would be one of those rare times (in my opinion) when the preview really, really, really gives too much information away and totally ruins things for viewers that wouldn't want to know anything about what is coming up. Most of the time (in my opinion) previews don't do that much and are just a few clips that could have come from just about any episode. Not so this time, which is why I used the cryptic comments I did in the first post.

I could have used spoiler tags and put up the information that I'm talking about and others have referred to, but then an awful lot of the discussion for this episode would have been about that information and we'd have a long thread with a bunch of hidden text in it. Some people seem to like things that way, but for me, I just avoided the preview for the most part because it seems to be too much hassle to keep hiding and showing text in replies.

I am liking this new Chuck, not a master spy (which would have changed the show) and not a complete bumbling idiot spy (though he comes close enough for my enjoyment).

    Preview Info.
As for the previews, what a cliff hanger it would have been if they had not shown Awesome alive in next week's episode. I was thinking - yet another death? And then no way they have to keep him in the show... and then the preview. Oh well, too bad on that.

They are sure intent on keep some relational tension between Chuck and Sarah, though that seems to be the theme in most shows - lead character(s) with romantic possibilities, just keep watching to find out what will happen. The just friends thing, isn't that just like how some people break up, "Let's just be friends, OK?" Which really means, "Can I torture you for awhile while I see other people?"

And, as said before, great 'Chuck the Doctor scene', I am sure Awesome thought that was awesome. Him and Ellie just may end up doing more spy stuff (her on accident and getting blazing mad at Chuck in the process). I like how Awesome sticks up for Chuck so much with Ellie, that is a great brother in-law. And it is great he saw the 'spy lair', I am sure hi opinion of Chuck has grown by leaps and bounds (though how will that be a secret from the ring of they get Awesome?).

And how many times can bad guys show up at the Buy More and no one can figure out there is a spy base nearby? Though I really enjoy the Buy More scenes...
