I was able to watch the pilot episode of NBC's Chuck tonight...legally. Blockbuster Online has a Preview DVD available for rent-by-mail that includes the pilots for Chuck, Journeyman, and Life. Unfortunately, they only had a 2 minute teaser of Bionic Woman, which is the show I really wanted to see. :(

Anyway, I had no idea what Chuck was about before watching it. Based on the picture, I thought it was some silly office comedy. Now I see they're going more towards the Action/Comedy route.

I "think" I like the show, but I'm not sold yet. The government agents are silly cardboard characters, which really took me out of the storyline. I enjoyed the show, but I don't know if I'd want to see a whole season. So many things happened with no explanation. First, since they have a computer that has all this info, why would they need Chuck still? Why was the email program able to place all that info in his brain? Why is CIA and NSA fighting about this? How does a CIA agent get away with throwing daggers at NSA agents and not get in trouble for that?

You're not supposed to probe the show this deeply. The premise is like a Creme Brule crust. But I liked it too.

I just finished watching the free Amazon Unbox download of Chuck.

Fun and intriguing. Not to be taken too seriously, of course, but still more than "just" a comedy. There was plenty of action.

This one is definitely a keeper.

It premieres on NBC on Sept. 24, so it should be showing up in the guide data soon.

I thought the same thing from the commercials and such I have seen. Those clearly focused on the comedy aspect. I had no idea it was some kind of closeted high espionage pseudo-thriller.

To be honest while I found it mildly amusing at first when it switched to that mode, by the end I had tired head and could not care to see another minute. If that is what the show intends to be, I can't see myself being there.

    I liked it. Alot. :)

I think it will be kind of structured like "Monk" and "Psyche" where the plot is just an excuse to stick the characters in situation where they can be funny.

I enjoyed it very much too. Seemed too high concept to pull off and make it funny at first, but I think they did a good job. I will definitely keep watching.

Not bad. I wasn't blown away, but I'll definitely tune in to the show (for a while, at least).

They don't have a computer with all this info--Bryce destroyed it. The email program was able to download all that info into Chuck's brain because the script said so. The CIA and NSA are fighting because they both want control over the info in Chuck's brain. And government spy agency agents are never accountable for their actions.

See how easy that was? Obviously, you don't watch enough television. :D

I dunno, I didn't find this show as funny as all the promos were pitching it. In fact, I found it pretty uninteresting.

I just watched this last night. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I thought I would.

Compared to similar show "Reaper" (i.e., unsuspecting slacker dude fumbling with powers bestowed upong him), I think I liked the comedy in Reaper a lot more.

Reaper looks likely to mostly a monster-of-the-week show, while Chuck might have the benefit of an ongoing storyline which I tend to prefer. But from watching the pilot, not sure I'll have any interest in the storyline.

Will set an SP and give it a go.

Liked it. It has potential. But probably will be canceled by Thanksgiving.
    (liked the Amazon Unbox preview)

Absolutely. Chuck is a keeper. I've seen it twice already on my PC and plan on watching the Pilot a 3rd time in HD when it finally airs.

Liked it. Should pair up nicely with Heroes.

I didn't realize McG (Charlie's Angels) was behind it. Definitely saw some of that style throughout the show.

I watched it last night from Amazon Unbox. Decent! I think I'll give it a try during the season.

I didn't realize McG was behind this show either. That makes me more interested in making it a keeper. I was a big fan of Fastlane, which he also did. LOVED that show and its not too serious attitude. I was sad to see it go.

One thing I was really impressed with was the quality of the picture from Amazon Unbox. I've been Tivo-less for over a year (Comcast DVR) but just installed my new TivoHD yesterday. No Cablecards yet but I can do Unbox + OTA + QAM. The OTA HD quality is exceptional, QAM recording is disgustingly awful. Unbox, even at 480i (basically DVD resolution, right?) looks great. I did use the Tivo's aspect control set to zoom, and I got a pretty nice full-frame 16x9 picture.

Yeah, the quality of this one was very good. Better than most of the Unbox stuff I have downloaded before.

I liked this show. I think Chuck and Bionic Woman have the best chances of surviving my SP list - of the 4 free pilots currently available on unbox

I really enjoyed this one and hope it 'sticks' and doesn't get an early axe. I didn't pay close attention to the episode on the Blockbuster disc, but caught enough to consider it well worth my time to record on DVR and watch at my convenience.
