Hi again. Some time ago I swapped a 8tb hard drive into my Tivo Roamio Pro. The hard drive is working flawlessly, but I got to where I am wanting to get all the channels working (a couple has some shows I'd like to watch) even the ones that take the tuning adapter. I have had it hooked up with the cable coming out of the all and into the TA. Then the output going to the Tivo. The SDV channels have not been coming in just the "searching for signal" error. I hooked it up with a splitter, running it from the wall to the input of the TA, and then going from the splitter to the Tivo. Doing it this way gives me NO channels. The yellow light on that TA keeps blinking yellow. Any suggestions?

If simply putting a splitter before the T/A caused a 'no signal' issue, you must be at a very marginal signal level.

What signal level is your TiVo reporting?

If you remove the splitter, what signal level is your TiVo reporting?

Can you provide details on your house coax layout? Splitters, etc...?

With the splitter I have 0 signal strength. Without it on the channels that come in, are anywhere between 88 -95. That is with and without the TA power supply plugged in and unplugged. No difference. On the TA page it shows no TA plugged in.

I'm thinking I need a new TA. Thanks for trying to help.

I'll get charter to get me another ta, this one has to be bad. Either way I hook it up now gets an error and no channels will play. Just an error saying "Channel not provided by the TA. Contact your cable provider for more information.". If I unplug it, it gets the regular channels non SDV channels.

"I hooked it up with a splitter, running it from the wall to the input of the TA, and then going from the splitter to the Tivo."

Can you diagram this bit? I'm not grasping what you mean? I believe this should be wall to splitter input, then one output to TiVo and the other output to TA. Are you using the TA output in your setup at all?

One thing I had an issue with once upon a time was bad coax. I had purchased some flexible jumper coax that wouldn't work. Once I changed those out, the TA fired right up.

Good luck. I've lived this frustration, but once setup, it's so worth it.

Edit to add... Do you have the USB cable in place from TiVo to TA?

Yes that's the way i have it hooked up. And I do have the USB hooked up also, I tried both ports. I have the power unplugged from the TA so we can watch tv.

When you get a chance, can you post the first page from tuning adapter diagnostics? I can compare it to my values to get an idea if a signal issue or something else.

If signals there look good, you'll want to get to the cable card specialists. There used to be a dedicated number, but now folks are saying you have to go through the front line folks first.

No problem. Whenever you get to it, it's actually the 1st and 2nd pages that are important. On my 2nd page, they told me Tuner, FDC, and RDC should be near what is shown in the picture.[IMG]

What brand of tuning adapter do you have? I have a Cisco STA1520.

My tuning adapter is connected in the following way.

The coax cable from the wall is connected to the tuning adapter and then there is a coax cable that is connected between the tuning adapter and the TiVo. I have no coax splitters. There is also a USB cable connected between the tuning adapter and the TiVo.

Are you certain that the tuning adapter is being detected by the TiVo? Go to "TiVo Central" --> "Remote, CableCARD, & Devices".
The setting "Tuning Adapter" should be "[Tuning adapter in use]".

When I have issues with my tuning adapter, the following is the process I go through to get the TiVo and the tuning adapter to function properly...

    1) Disconnect the USB cable from the tuning adapter.
    2) Unplug the power cord from the tuning adapter.
    3) Unplug the power cord from the TiVo.
    4) Plug the power cord into the TiVo and the tuning adapter. The TiVo will begin it's boot process. The tuning adapter will begin it's boot process and the front panel LED will slowly flash at a constant rate.
    5) The TiVo will boot normally and I will be able to watch non-SDV (Switched Digital Video) channels.
    6) After a period of time (this process can take up to an hour), the tuning adapter front panel will stop flashing and will be "on" (constant on with no flashing).
    7) Plug the USB cable into the tuning adapter. The TiVo will display a message on the screen that a tuning adapter has been detected. Select "Continue".
    8) The tuning adapter should now be connected. Go to "TiVo Central" --> "Remote, CableCARD, & Devices". The setting "Tuning Adapter" should be "[Tuning adapter in use]".

After this process, you should be able to view SDV channels.

I received this process from an Engineer who works at the headend in my area and it has never failed me. It works every time. Be patient with step 6 it really can take up to an hour.

Yellow light sounds like a Motorola. Definitely need to use a splitter with that one.

Blinking means it needs to be fixed on cable company’s end. They need to add to your account, authorize and enable. Once you get a solid light, you can start troubleshooting the TiVo end.

Well the system went down for the count. I was trying to get the screen shots of the signal strength and other information.

It started to get real bad pixelation and then went totally out. I had no channels at all. Rebooted everything again and it took over an hour to get it done. Still nothing.

So I get fed up with it and call the Spectrum number to have their system to reboot it. Still nothing. I finally decide to talk to a representative to see what they had to say. The lady sent the "hit" to the receiver and TA. Still nothing.

Soooooooo I have a truck coming Thursday to look at it and see what they can find. I asked her if she would have them to bring another TA with them. She said I guess I can. So I hooked the main cable straight in the input connector on the Roamio. I get all the non-SDV channels.

Thanks for all the help. I will report back on what they find.

Congratulations on getting them going so easy. I hope the tec can get ours that easy. We have had 10 or 15 new houses right below us and just about all of them are using Charter. That may have something to do with it.

Great news. It turned out to be the tuning adapter that went bad. The tech hooked the new one up and BAM it started working. Thanks for all the help.
