Ok, I officially don't care about the rest of this episode. (Well, maybe a little.) That opening scene was perfect.

"What exactly are you supposed to be?"
    "A space cowboy."
"A, there are no cows in space. B, didn't you wear that like 5 years ago?"
    "So?"
"So.... don't you think you should move on?"
    "I like it!"

And yes, that IS in fact the Mal "hero" browncoat costume. Nathan kept it after filming. :)

This episode made me smile -- you're right, the opening was perfect.

    Opening was great!

And they did throw a Buffy comment in there.

I also really loved the interchange when the friend was drunk. Castle got very serious and dad like when he said they had to call her parents. Nicely played.

    This whole show is perfect.

Granted, not a terribly ambitious form of perfection, but for what it is, it's perfect.

    Hooray for Captain Tightpants!

Heck, they even threw an Underworld reference in there to Lucian and the Lycans. Mmm, Stana Katic in form-fitting leather, a la Kate Beckinsale. That would be nice.

I knew that opening was coming, happened to take a sip of water as the episode was starting, and almost choked trying to avoid spit-taking all over my laptop.

Not to mention a reference to Dark Horse Comics (who, BTW, also publish the Serenity comics).

There was also the somewhat more subtle "shindig" reference at Castle's party.

(And I'm sure I'm the only one, but I kept having flashbacks to the Buffy episode "Bad Eggs" because of the stupid egg parenting experiment, the one that apparently every school but ours must go through.)

Fillion looks good in the 'stache. I don't know about the hair, though.

The writers so far are doing a good job of making sure the one-liners don't come off forced. And that's surprising considering the amount of one-liners there are.

So many great moments in this episode.

The cherries scene was well played.

    That would have been great.

Anyone know what the ratings are like? What's the likelihood of it being picked up for another season?

And as they cut back to Castle after that line, the incidental music plays a couple of chords that were very evocative of the Firefly incidental music.

    Very well done.

Too early to tell. It got the "back nine" a little while ago. ABC will likely review the ratings closer to the end of the season to determine a pickup for next season.

I was mad because tivo stopped recording a couple minutes before the ending. I didn't get the whole scene at his party. I mean, I watched it but it wasn't recorded. I have now altered my SP and that won't happen again.

This has become my favorite as well. I loved when they were going in the building and had to pull Castle behind as he was trying to enter ahead of them.

Channel 6 out of Philly never did show Castle. They showed the Eagles game instead. It was suppose to be on at 1:06 am according to my To Do List. However, they showed Jimmy Kimmel instead. They did show Dancing with the stars at 2 am but the football game messed up their timing so it didnt record the last 20 minutes of it. Had to go watch Castle on Hulu.
