So satellitte is out because of trees so I'm forced to stay with my cable company. Their DVR's are terrible, Moxi motorola boxes that are always out, don't record etc. Wife says it's either me or the cable boxes that have to go and I like the air conditioning.

My set-up is as follows, can you help me pick out the right equipment to buy.

TV1 - 37" HDTV - living room - hooked to receiver - want HD DVR capability
    TV2 - 20" SDTV - Bedroom - want dvr capability
TV3 - 20" HDTV - Workout Room - basic cable - cool to have dvr ability

So could i do a combination of:

    1. Tivo HD and a regular Tivo?
    2. Tivo HD & Slingbox?
    3. Tivo HD feed more than one tv?

    Thanks very much in advance!

No TiVo can feed separate outputs to separate TVs.

Whatever the box is displaying, that's what both sets will get if you hook two sets up to one box.

As for what combination you do, that's entirely up to you.

How many TiVos do you want to buy? How many can you afford? How many subscriptions can you afford?

These are things you know. Not stuff we'd know about.

Yes, TiVo apparently will work with a slingbox, tho' I don't personally use one. (Others have said they do.)

You can have a Series 3 in the same house as a Series 1 or 2, naturally.

The Series 3 can handle both analog and digital.

    That's about it...

    Oh...

What benefit you get from a Series 1 or 2 depends on your cable service and what you have feeding into the TiVo.

Do you need a cable box to get all channels? Can a cable-ready tuner get all your channels, thus no box needed? Is your service analog or digital?

Too many variables here. Again, some of this you'd know and we wouldn't.

A Series 3, especially with cable cards, will be able to get just about ALL cable channels, except for things like VideoOnDemand and PayPerView.

Stand alone Series 1 and 2 TiVos can work with a cable box.

Series 3s cannot, but see above.

    I'd suggest:

    TiVo-HD on main TV.
Series 2 DT on second TV
Feed 3rd TV from Series 2 DT. or Series 3.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm pricing the Tivo HD and the Series 2 on the tivo site right now. This may be what we end up with.

As for the series 2, do I just split the outgoing signal to the two sdtv's? We won't be watching both at the same time 99% of the time anyway. Will the controller work from another room?
