The very nice CSR tried to persuade me to continue service for another month because they have already charged my account for the month ahead. I pointed out that that would push me beyond the 30-day free cancellation. After some further discussion, e.g., didn't I want to connect the two Tivos (?) I again pointed out that I wanted to disconnect within the cancellation period. Eventually, she was all right with that. (paraphrasing): Good. Then you can just transfer the extra billing to my new TiVo. I'm sorry, that won't be possible. We cannot transfer fees from one TiVo to another. You mean, you bill in advance, and TiVo just gets my money? Well, I think I need to charge you a $200 cancellation fee anyway. No, I activated service on July 5. I have 30 days to cancel. Today is August 5 and within the 30-days. I'm calling today to cancel within the contracted time period. Can you hold on? (LOUD MUSIC) Okay CSR returns: Okay, I have cancelled service on the Humax. Thanks. Bye. Darn. I agreed so easily and didn't pin her down again on the refund of the early charge for the Humax. NB: my 3 year service contract began on the date I placed the order, not the date of installation and beginning service.
