I have a new TiVo and was wondering if there is a way to save a show that I have just watched in live TV? I know that the TiVo automatically records what I am watching, but is there a way once it is over that I can save it if I decide at that point that I would like to have it recorded to watch again later?

Once you start into the next show no. During the program simply press the "record" button.

    YFYI----

You always have a 1/2 hour buffer (last 1/2 hour on that channel) Once you change the channel you lose the buffer.

Keep in mind that you then have to select "Record this showing at Best Quality" in order to save up to 30 minutes of LiveTV cache. (this shows as "Extreme {fine}" if you have a Pioneer DVD recorder model).

If you go into "Season Pass & other options" and change the recording quality, you will only record from that moment forward in LiveTV, even if you are further back in the cache.

In emergencies I have sent my TiVo all the way back to the beginning of the buffer, tossed a tape into my VCR, set the VCR input to that TiVo, and recorded the show as I played back the buffer.

Of course that only works if your show is a half-hour, or you want a segment of a larger show.

Normally if you try to record that 1/2 hour buffer after a new program has started, you will only get the buffer from the start of the new program.

    There is however a workaround.
If you go to record by time and channel (TiVo + 7) you can set a manual recording for the channel you were watching, and set that manual recording to start 30 or more minutes in the past.
This will cause the TiVo to grab to whole buffer, and not just from the start of the current program.
