Can you run TiVo Server as a Windows Service?

    Sorry if this has already been asked. A search on the forum for "windows" and "service" didn't bring up anything specific. :eek:

    I would like to have the TiVo Server run as a service on my PC, so that the network features are available on the TiVo when I'm not logged in (when my husband or daughter is using the computer, for example). And it would be nice to have access to music and pictures from all the user accounts on the PC, regardless of who is logged on, or if no one is logged on. For instance, on the TiVo I would like to see the choices: "Mom's music on HomePC" and "Daughter's music on HomePC," etc.

    Can it be done?

    TivoBeacon is already a service, but the piece that runs in the system tray TivoServer does not launch until you log in. You need to log in and then use "switch user".

    or you could use a spare computer which has only one user and no password to host your music/photos. then it would log itself in automatically when it boots up.

    Ok, thanks shredhead. That answers my question, but I'm bummed that I can't get it to do what exactly what I want. :-}

    There are third party applications that can run programs as services. FireDaemon is one of them. I use it for other programs, never tried it with the Tivo server, however. Not all programs can be run like this. I believe FireDaemon has a trial version of their software. Might be worth downloading and trying it out.

    I'd be interested to see if this works. I don't want to be the guinea pig though... Post your results.

    I'll do that. It might be awhile before I have time to set it up, though.
