No - the TiVo doesn't know how to change the channels on the TV even if the TV had a video output you could use.

Sorry but no.... You need a ATSC tuner to do that, your TV has one, but your series 2 does not. But connect a antenna to the TV and enjoy HDTV......

I am recording off the air HDTV on to a TiVo 2 using a set top converter box.http://www.winegard.com/mobile/dig_receiver.htm It changes any of the ATSC formats to NTSC. You connect to the TiVo thru the av inputs set up as a satellite reciever. You have to set up as manual recording as TiVo has not yet provided any control for these boxes (wishing and hoping) to change channels or provide guide listings.

And to further clarify, the downconverting takes place in the HD tuner box before its output to the TiVo, which only accepts 480i standard definition TV signals.

Your clarifications are correct. Yes it is no longer true HD, but it is still a good picture, perhaps a bit better than analog. And the TiVo can still be useful in the new world.

Thank you this is exactly what I wanted to know. I knew it would be down converted, but that still looks better than original signal.
