Hello, I used TiVo Series1 PDR to record free to air TV program without TIVO service. Now the unit came to the end of its life. It just keeps rebooting. I am thinking to have another one. I found many TiVo Series2 units in ebay. I am wondering if TiVo Series2 can record free to air TV program without subscribing to TIVO severse? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

nope, basic series 2 units (no dvd burner) can't do any recording w/o a subscription

You can probably replace the hard drive in your S1 and continue to use it.

Or sell it and use the money for a subscription on a series 2!

But not without a subscription, which was the OP's question.

Which is still not the way the OP wants it to work. The OP wants it to work w/o a subscription. Any money gained by selling the S1 put toward a subscription would make for a very short subscription, then the OP is back to nothing.

Thank you for the infomation. I searched about the replacement of a bad HD in this rofum and bought InstantCake and burnt another HD to replace the original one. The machine is working now. Great forum!
