Sorry If I have missed information on this already posted, but I don't recall seeing it. The basic question is simple - After TiVo announced no new S3 activations, is it still possible to transfer a currently active S3 with Lifetime service to a different user?

I have a friend who just went to OTA, and while I cannot recommend any new TiVo purchase for him under current Bad Rovi, I think a cheap used S3 might be a great way to get him a DVR. But it occurs to me that the transfer process requires a current owner to call in and deactivate the box while getting a "transfer" number to give to the buyer. So has anybody done this since TiVo announced they would not activate any S3 boxes in the future, or is the buyer dead in the water as soon as the current owner starts the transfer process?

Thanks for the response - good to know you had no problems. I was hesitant to suggest this option to my friend without knowing for sure he wouldn't get jacked around.

There's a promo right now to transfer lifetime from a Series 2/3 to a newly purchased Bolt for only $100
    TiVo BOLT

    Offer ends April 10th.

As long as Rovi continues to bone my recordings I have no plans on giving them anymore money.

I have two TiVo HD's w/ Lifetime on my account. Am I given the option as to which to deactivate?

With the degradation of service and ruination of the guide, I wouldn't waste any money on a new TiVo hoping it will someday return to being a frontrunning DVR.

Same here with our Roamio Pro and just took advantage of the Bolt upgrade deal to replace my son's HD. :)

For us, they still record our shows properly and we use Netflix, Amazon Prime, Pandora and iHeartRadio on them reasonably often (several times a week) as well as transfer shows to and from our home server and PC's.

Well, yeah, both of my more recent TiVos (I started with a coupla 1s and a coupla 2s) are still working relatively well. I'm just saying I doubt I would invest in a new one

Mine should arrive today per FedEx after a month delay in shipping.

I thought Tivo stopped providing guide data for the Series 1 Tivos.

He said that's what he started with, but that he has something more recent now.
