Is is possible to add a 2tb external esata drive to the premier box supplied by my cable company as 45 hours is too small and the basic mode is not available.

I think you mean 2TB not GB, so the answer is "NO"
even on the retail units the 500GB and 1TB official DVR expander is the only option.

Hey pretty cool. Didn't know any cable company was offering Tivo Premiere as an option.

But on the question of the 2TB external. I agree. No can do. 1Tb limit. Can you live with 200 hours of HD? I couldn't. Besides, I just couldn't stand one more power brick, and more cables and cords for that External drive. I've got enough spaghetti now! ..

I'd crack open the cable company's TIVO Premiere and upgrade the drive to 2TB for just about the same cost as a 1TB Expander. The risk is practically non-existent. Not much can go wrong if you unplug the Tivo and you don't drop a screw driver on the motherboard or spill a coke inside the box or something equally unlikely.

I bought (2) of these drives from these guys: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TiVo-HD-Series-3-2TB-Hard-Drive-Upgrade-Kit-NEW-/320641625355?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa7baed0b Very reliable. Drives came formatted for Tivo Premiere. Nothing to do but open the box, unscrew the drive, unplug the orig drive and plug in the new one. If you ask them, they'll even send you the TORX 10 and 15 screw drivers needed for the job. Be sure to keep the orig drive to re-install when the unit goes back to the cable guys.

Link corrected. Orig link was for Series 3 .. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-TiVo-Premiere-2TB-Hard-Drive-Upgrade-Kit-/320627171474?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa6de6092

I agree that might be the wrong drive for a premier. But I like the idea though.

You're right. I went too fast. Here's the correct link:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-TiVo-Premiere-2TB-Hard-Drive-Upgrade-Kit-/320627171474?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa6de6092

It does make a difference. I'll correct the other link. They sell these drives for various Tivo models. Be sure to get the correct one. So far, mine are working well ... running very quite too. I saved my orig drives .. I'm coming from an old Series 2 with a 40 hour capacity. This has been really nice having all that room !
