I recently purchased a HDR212 unit on eBay and it has NO hard drive in it (making it SUPER cheap!!)........ I have an extra 15 GB drive which has stuff on it... I know it is useless stuff so I will probably reformat it.... Can I just reformat this drive and put it in the TiVo box?? Will the box automatically format the new drive?? Can I just slap this drive in the TiVo box and have it work or do I need to connect it to a computer and put something on it??

    Thanks

You have to put a TiVo image on the drive. I suggest you buy Instantcake from www.DVRupgrade.com. It only costs 19.99 and is very easy to use. Good luck. :)

The site doesn't have my model.... Aren't there any free images that I can get for MY model (HDR212)?? It is a SERIES 1 model!! I want the series one because I can use the DVR without paying for any service! I heard that if I get software for it that is above a curtain version, then I WOULD have to pay service. This is not my goal.
