    My assumption has been that the bionics are some sort of artificial organic tissue; not the original human tissue, but not mechanical either. The "anthrocites" are capable of building this tissue; when an original body part suffers major damage, the nanites replace/repair it with artificial tissue.

    Thus chopping off an arm would cause the arm to regenerate as bionic. Said bionic tissue would automatically integrate with the existing brain implants in order to provide all the sensory and programming upgrades.

    Presumably the nanites are inhibited in some way so as to not bionicize minor wounds that would heal naturally; otherwise the subjects would become less & less human as they age. But then again, Anthros Sr. doesn't seem like the type to worry too much about long-term side-effects...

    Is anybody else bothered by the fact that Anthros SR. sounds like an un-educated two-bit thug, while his son is a University Professor and Surgeon?

    Shouldn't they be a little more alike?
