Last month I had a drive go out...I THOUGHT
it turned out to be the power supply.
Well anyway I formatted the drive and resintalled everything and its up and working again.

THE PROBLEM is the drive sounds like its writing 3000 files a second. Banging and clicking and its sooooo damn hot you can't touch it.
I shut it down and now I don't know what to do.

is there something that I need to check or redo to stop this behavior?

    thank you for any help

Any hard drive I ever had in a computer that makes abnormal noises was toast. I believe because the heads were making contact with the spinning disk. If the heads are damaged, then it will just keep seeking because it can not read the data it is searching for.

    Ellicott...
Pull the drive and run the manufacturer's diagnostic to see if the drive is going bad. You should know in short order if the drive is dying or already dead.
