I want to buy a TiVo elite, I currently own a tivoHD with a 1tb hard drive and lifetime. Is tivo offering any upgrade deals or am I stuck flipping my current tivo on ebay?

Oh also does the elite work with pytivo?

The only deal is the Multi Service Discount on additional TiVos. $5 off per month or $100 off Lifetime.

True, but that is the standard MSD pricing, not anything unique to the Elite.

Best "deal"is using a Best Buy 10 or 12 percent off on the purchase price.

Depending on your local tax rate the Weaknees price with $25 off and free shipping might also be cheaper.

If they are still offering the discount. Someone had posted a code for it.

Best method would be to buy it at retail price. Then you will save $100 off lifetime with MSD. After you purchase lifetime, you could sell your HD.

Anywhere you buy it, whether TiVo, Best Buy, or Weaknees, you can still get the $100 off lifetime with MSD.

Yes, but there are no discounts on the box itself at tivo.com. You can get a discount at Best Buy (if you look around) and at Weaknees.

I bought my S3 as soon as it came out and paid a premium price for it... I didn't mind, i HAD TO HAVE IT and i also understand that early adopters always pay a premium.

But if you are budget conscious and can wait - give it six months and you will start to see some pricing options on the Elite...

I just had a heated and long go around with TiVo sales yesterday on this. I have two units and pay $7 each for service. I wanted to buy the Elite as my Series 2 died, well told the wife it did anyway. When it was all said and done, the BEST TiVo would offer is raising the monthly for her 3HD from $7 a month to $12, and giving me a $100 credit on the lifetime after 30 days. So, $500 for the Elite, $500 for lifetime, and $100 credit after 30 days, plus free slider remote. To me, this was no bargain at all. So I just picked up a Series 3 HD 160 off Craigslist for $65 and will stick with $7 a month on each unit.

I'm not sure what you expected TiVo to do for you?

$100 credit and a free Slide remote sounds really good to me. How much more were you trying to squeeze out of them?

Were you just expecting TiVo to box an Elite up for you and send it out for free, just because things got "heated" on the phone call? In my experience, if things get emotional on a phone call, you have clearly lost the argument.

And lying to your wife? Sounds like a solid plan.

If you plan to get lifetime on the Elite keep this in mind. Make sure you buy the Elite and get the MSD discount on the lifetime sub before you sell off your old TiVoHD.

It looks like they were billing him the full $499 for the lifetime... instead of the $399 for MSD, which I would have assumed if he had a couple of older units.

If for some reason those weren't qualifying units, they might have wanted to do $499 for lifetime - but either way, the $100-after-30-days sounds like a situation RIFE with potential for issues. No way would I take them up on that if there were any alternatives - the odds are simply too high they'd never credit back the $ and I'd have to hassle for it.
